Several years ago, I asked for some advice here. It led to me making two friends for life– and this dish after years of living abroad. (Details inside)

  1. I posted [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/spicy/comments/3ol9nk/please_help_green_chile_in_swedeneurope/) back in the day (God, 9 years ago!) looking for help finding hatch green chilies in Sweden after moving here from Colorado. I had such a green chili craving it was maddening. I ended up getting a message from another Redditor who offered to send me some, but we realized the logistics weren’t the easiest. Regardless, we chatted a bit and he and his wife ended up coming to Copenhagen (an hour away from me) for work, and I offered to play tour guide. We met up for the afternoon; I took them to Nyhavn, Tivoli, Stroget, and other little highlights. Was a lovely time. We found out that we both lived very close in Colorado when we lived there, went to the same college at the same time, and he worked locally somewhere I frequented often. Small world!

Fast forward to this summer, she ended up needing to come out here for work again, and I offered my guest house for her to chill at for a few days between conferences. It’s been one of those “intermittent, distant, but still flourishing” friendships that took off after this summer. She was going to bring some frozen hatch chilis for me in her checked bag but opted against it, not wanting to risk any silliness with customs.

Last month, I had a last-minute stop back in the States (New England) to see my dad, and they asked for his address. Upon arrival at his house, there was a package of FIVE POUNDS OF FROZEN HATCH CHILI, jarred green chili sauce, and powdered green chili seasoning waiting for me. With that, I made my Thanksgiving meal with this green chili.

All I’m saying in this post is that even though the Reddit of 9 years ago may be different than the Reddit of today, this is still a place where, if you look in the right subs, you can find incredibly good friendships and connections. I met my current SO (who I moved to Sweden for) almost 11 years ago. I met these two. I met another great friend from Vietnam ([from this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/sweden/comments/6kmr90/ive_also_recently_moved_to_sweden_i_found_this_to/)) who ended up moving to Sweden to study at Lund University (an hour away from me) and stayed with me for several weeks before/after her studies. I’ve made so many friendships on this site, and the trajectory of my life has been changed for the better due to them.

Be kind, be friendly, reach out, and bond over a killer bowl of green chili whenever possible. 🙂

Thanks for sharing the story, it is nice to be reminded of the warmth of human connection in addition to the peppers!
