hi all!
it’s my first time growing tomatoes — i’m growing sungold cherry tomatoes hydroponically, and i’d like to keep my plants to one main stem. i noticed today that there are two branchings from the main stem that are both generating new leaves (one in front of my finger and the other to the right). i also included an image of the branching on the second slide. the one on the left is also growing its first flowers.
my question is: they both look like theyre at a 45° angle to the main stem below, but since the right one is thinner is it safe to assume that one is a sucker and cut it off? or should i best leave it be?
beyond that, any tips on tomato growing would be much appreciated! i want them to be as healthy and happy as possible.

Okay, so I recommend sticking to single leader tomatoes which means you prune off the suckers and stick to 1 main stem which is a popular and in my opinion best way of going about growing tomatoes.
The sucker I colored in red, it looks like it’s been going for 2 weeks if I were to guess which is where it definitely can look sneaky!! The blue is your main steam that you should not prune off.
I pick the one with the flowers
If you can’t tell, maybe you should not try to hard prune it and let it go. There is no need to prune them, particularly at this stage. Then, once you have some more experience, you can try the single leader method if you want.
