At fancy restaurant.. I normally order medium but after joining this sub, decided medium rare was the way to do it. Is this medium rare? Looks a little under cooked to me? I still ate it😅

Yes, perfectly. The pink ring bingo bango. Actual rare would go from that crispy goodness straight to the red with almost 0 pink. Actual medium would just be pink, no red.

It’s somewhere between rare and med rare. Med rare doesn’t have that shiny tuna look.

Between rare & medium rare – a real medium rare does not have a shiny look in the middle that resembles a rare tuna steak

A technical term for that cook could be “rare plus” which means leaning medium rare but not quite there. It is how I order mine at high-end restaurants

  5. Yeah. That’s solidly within the parameters of what you can expect. Technically the slight translucency in the middle on the thick cut-slice facing upward on the plate reads slightly more to the rare end, but if you were to send it back for being under-cooked you’d also be being a bit of an ass-hole.

I’d eat the sh*t out of that. As a line cook, that’s how I like my steak, with a link e crust. Looks delicious!

The piece closest to us looks medium rare or maybe a bit rare. But the piece in the middle looks closer to medium.

looks perfect to me, but it is closer to the rare side!

  9. People saying this is rare would call some of my steaks blue

That is medium rare. I don’t see it like other people that it’s leaning towards rare, that picture is how you would depict a medium rare steak in a textbook lol. I hope you enjoyed it. I like my steak above medium rare but now quite medium. The shiny part in the middle for me has to be smaller.

Rare+ … closer to the rare side of medium-rare but I’d eat that in a heartbeat.

A little under. But still in the realm of what I’d call a “perfect” steak. I’m eating that 8 days a week.

It’s is just a pinch in the rare side. But just a pinch.

I’d easily call that medium rare. If center had any blue then we’re in rare territory.

If it is a bistro then they cook like this when you ark med rare, but to me this is a rare steak

If you’re going to miss on the cook, most folks looking for med-rare would be just fine with this

  17. Vic_Vinegars

No but it’s close enough that i wouldn’t go out of my way to mention it to anyone.

If it was mostly like the piece on the left, it was rare, if it was like the piece on the right, then a perfect medium rare.

Medium rare, a touch more rare. I think they nailed it!

Looks medium rare to me, depends on the temperature, but it’s the way i like it.

Overcooked, inedible, you should probably just let me have it 😋

  22. SicknessofChoice

Looks med rare to me! I normally eat my steaks rare to med rare! 🤣

  23. TheBloodyNinety

Brown, pink, red. Depending which chart you look at this could be stock photo for medium rare.

Medium Rare is a warm red center. This steak is medium rare. Rare would be a cold red center.
