It’s ok, that’s a core memory right there.

Cool ur cream and add a second layer will look much neater!

    Good job mama

Tall cake rescue idea: get a tall trifle dish and layer it the best you can.

First, good job. You’re doing great. They’re going to always remember this and remember how awesome of a parent you were/are. You’re trying and your love for them shows. Those cakes look delicious. Second, I love your cereal boxes. ♥️

You can add a broom holding them up and say you recreated the sleeping beauty cake 🙂

I’d suggest cooling or cooling your frosting. The first year I made a cake I spread the frosting right after I mixed it. Here’s the result https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Kfl3l-elKFQfw1RQpK0k0ra0PWqCErH9/view?usp=sharing.

After that I started putting the frosting in the fridge to firm up. I it made a huge difference. I’ll also do a crumb coat, them put the cake in the fridge before dropping my final layer. I cried over the cake in the photo, but the kids all loved it.

You made tall cakes = goals met!

Well done!…Now, the important question: May I assist in making the cakes a little less tall? I mean, surely that’s far too much cake for your kids? Surely? 😋🤩🤣🥳🍰🧁

Love the DBZ cereal boxes! I’d put those on my wall too!

  9. Coff73ee

You should be proud! You made something special for your child, and that’s what’s important . Looks aren’t everything, I’m sure it tastes great.

These are Cinderella fairy cakes ❤️

    Edit. Sleeping beauty cake

Actually my 6 year old was so happy she squealed of excitement. I’m pretty sure I nailed it 😎

They will taste better than they look. With kids, sometimes that matters more.

    You succeeded!!
If they need help eating cake, I offer my services 😁

  14. I hope they loved them and devoured them. 💜🩵

A few family members at the party looked at the cake and said “no thanks I don’t eat cake” but they all ate at the last party in October so I posted this to feel better. Thanks guys, you’re the best.

And it looks like they got tall cakes! What flavor?

One time my chocolate cake collapsed right before I brought it to Thanksgiving. I called the hostess and said, ‘Do you perchance have a couple of small plastic dinosaurs?’ She did.

So my cake became a model of Earth, Long Before Human Life, and everyone enjoyed it just fine.

Perfection is boring. All OP’s kids will remember is that they made them cake!!!

A few really simple tips to get a better finish next time: freeze the cake layers and level them before stacking

And make your own buttercream. It’s impossible to get a good finish with canned frosting. Boxed cake is totally fine, it works great.

Unless this look was deliberate, if you want a cake to be more even use a springform pan without the bottom to assemble it. Let it cool and set in the pan, remove and decorate. Perfect cake every time.

  20. Functionality matters more. If it tastes good, and usually they do, that’s all that matters. I’ve made cakes before but I don’t have a lot of practice so they turn out a little sloppy but goodness is the frosting and bread good

  21. Impressive_Ad9398

My 3 year old pointed at it and said “yummy cake” so there you go!

  22. LobsterNo3435

Lovely. Like other dude said good core memory. They can say someone made them special a tall cake!

  23. cakeit-tilyoumakeit

Keep trying! I do a crumb coat, pop it in the fridge for 20 mins, then use a bench scraper and a lazy Susan to get a nice smooth finish. Works like a charm.

As for making your layers stand upright (not leaning), I cut off the domes (though that’s not the best or most economic way to make flat cakes).

Finally, for my two young’s kids (4 and 1) I cut down time by simply using a box cake and homemade icing. Allows me to focus my time on decoration and setting up for the party.

3 years of making their cakes (my sil did it for my son’s first) and I’m decent now. Just takes practice

Nothing says love like a home-made cake for your birthday. My mum always used to make me a cake for my birthday too. Your kids will remember how thoughtful and caring you are 💕

  25. Ivviiee

I would have been so happy to get this cake as a kid, my mum used to make these

  26. Unique_Permission_63

I don’t remember what my birthday cakes looked like. But I remember that my mom baked them and I LOVED them. I LOVED that she baked my cakes. That’s all that matters. The love that pours into these cakes. Happy to hear your daughter was excited ❤️

  27. earl_grais

You did it, parent! I bet your kids were absolutely thrilled 🙂

  28. Monicalovescheese

They look like they were made with love.

  29. sambee13

My mom remembers that all the cakes her mom made for her birthdays were lopsided. Great job making the cakes!

  30. DeadpooI

My first thought was, oh that’s a bit rough but the kids will probably love it still.

I googled sleeping beauty cake and you nailed that shit. Looks great!
