1996 mouton Rothschild

Vibrant, so much life left in this wine. I get graphite, black fruits, and gamey dankness, a bit more pyrazine than I’d expected. This is a magnificent wine, I give it 96 points.

2016 Chateau d Yquem

This is the second bottle of Yquem I’ve had the joy of drinking, and it’s worth every penny. It is pure liquid honey, sweet yet crisp, deep yet lively. Truly one of the great wines of the world. 99 points.

I had a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau. You’re winning.

I was lucky enough to enjoy that same Mouton recently from a half bottle – it was fantastic after about a 2 hr decant.

Based on that tasting, I think that 1996 is an underrated vintage in Bordeaux and is drinking great right now. I went out and bought a 1996 Chateau Margaux and Latour to test my theories.
