Many decades ago a struggling farmer made a pact with an evil spirit. In exchange for human soul sacrifices, the demon would provide a bountiful harvest that season. Yet long after the farmer has died, the demon still lurks, reaping any souls that come its way — and this year, the harvest will be bountiful.
This is my second time using a CNC routing machine to cut all my gingerbread pieces. I baked rectangular slabs of gingerbread and cut them using the machine.
The cornfield is made of whole grain spaghetti and wafer paper, the characters are made of fondant, and the blood gushing out of the harvester is made of red isomalt.
Gingerbread recipe:
* 1 cup shortening * 1 ½ cups fancy Molasses (or corn syrup depending on desired colour) * 1 cup sugar * 6 cups flour * 4 tsp. ginger * 1/2 tsp allspice * 2 tsp cinnamon * 1/2-3/4 cup water
Fondant recipe:
* 4 cups mini marshmallows * 4 cups icing sugar * 2 tbsp water
Isomalt:
* 2 cups isomalt crystals * 1/2 cup distilled water * Heat to 320F
Gum glue:
* 1/4 tsp CMC/Tylose powder * 0.5oz water
