LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – It’s the season of giving, and groups across the Lansing area are doing just that.

The Eastside Community Action Center and the St. Gerard Catholic Church are preparing for their annual holiday community meal. Their goal: To make sure no one spends the holiday alone.

“We try to spoil them for a couple of hours. We have good food, a little bit of entertainment, we play some trivia,” Sean Gehle at St. Gerard Catholic Church said.

They’ve been putting on holiday meals since 1987. Even after over 35 years, they still have around 80 volunteers help out every year.

“My favorite part is just seeing some of the same people and welcoming the same people back holiday after holiday, and really seeing the joy on their faces of having a great meal,” Gehle admitted.

On the west side of Lansing at St. Gerard’s they’re expecting to feed around 250 people on Wednesday. At the Eastside Community Action Center, they’ll give out gifts to kids on Tuesday, then meals for families on Christmas Day.

The Eastside Community Action Center has put on its annual holiday meal for over 25 years. They’re expecting to give out gifts and feed over 100 people over the next couple of days.

Executive Director, Dr. Stan Parker said he wants to give families in trying times a sense of hope.

“We want to be able to help them put a smile on their face, help them have a better tomorrow,” Parker said.
