TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Salvation Army hosted its annual Christmas Dinner, with hundreds showing up for a warm meal to celebrate the season of giving.

Some reunions on the holiday look a little different than others. This one brings community members and volunteers together to say hello to familiar faces… like Chris Nordensson, who’s been helping at the Salvation Army Christmas Dinner for years..

“I love doing Thanksgiving and Christmas, and it’s just a great way to give back, and honestly, it’s the most fun I have on a holiday,” Nordensson said.

This year, he brought some reinforcements – his sons to teach them a holiday message that took him a little bit longer to learn.

“Christmas for me when I was a kid was about every gift I could get, and as I get older, giving to other people warms my heart, and it makes other people happy, and I feel like I’m a part of something,” Nordensson said.

They’re among over 200 volunteers serving food, leading prayer, playing music, and allowing people to see Santa. They do this to ensure no one spends Christmas alone or hungry.

“It touches my heart because they could just stay home, enjoy family, enjoy the toys and everything but the spirit of Christmas they come and enjoy this and they’re really happy to serve. That’s beautiful,” Salvation Army Tucson city coordinator Major Andres Espinoza said.

As it gets colder, the Salvation Army Hospitality House will continue to offer warm meals and shelter for those who need a place to stay. You can find information on those resources here.
