Alright folks, it's that time of the year again. So before everyone disappears for that time of the year, below is the updated list for this year. So you all can be prepared to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Eateries:
https://www.tuuthreee.com/imnotafoodblogger/2021/6/15/current-viet-food-eateries-rankingPho only:
You can find all the original posts here: one, six months, one year, one half, two, two-half.
So updates on the eatery list:
– monsieur vo is being removed from the list due to closure, joining the fate of bolero 1 year prior.
– madame vo (the sister restaurant) & em bistro moved up the list
– la dong, a new restaurant made the list. I'm writing a dedicated post for this one.
– highlua moved down the list (yes yes yes, I will make my case on highlua on a dedicated post).
– ten ten made the list and got a dedicated post.
– pho ga vang made the list.
– pho bang made the list.
– I still can't remember entry 21.
– falansai moved down the list. (it's funny cuz it just made the Michelle Lin's recognition list, haha….) it moved down cuz I'm not even sure if it's Vietnamese anymore. Yea, fight me.
– ginger & lemon grass made the list.
Updates on the pho list:
– la dong made this list, to my surprise.
– ten ten got a dedicated post.
– diandi's bowl remained undefeated in my opinion. (but who cares what I think).
So, about all the ones I haven't visited: I usually do some research on yelp and google to just look at the food and menu offerings. Some of them are just plain disappointing and couldn't get myself to traverse 20 subway stops to get to. But I promise I will (slowly…) Here's the list of all the chosen ones, by you. Actually, here's a google map link:

Was at la dong for an event, excellent food and drinks
Wow I love that you keep updating this. I think NYC is seeing a steady growth of good Vietnamese places.
Thanks for keeping this going!
Thank you for your service
Are you Viet? I’m Viet. Di an di, Hanoi House, and High Lau all suck. I don’t understand how they made it on the list. Otherwise, a solid list. Pho Ga Vang should be on the pho only list.
Love la dong and not ten ten as much. Will try ten ten again as we went close to closing.
Thanks for this!! There’s a new ues joint called ly ly that seems promising just fyi!!
Try out the new Lyly on the UES. Great pho
Saiguette not top 33 material?
I’ve been searching far and wide for bun cha. Any recommendations?
I still think that Nha Minh is way better than Money Kat as far as Bushwick is concerned.
Interesting La Dong made the list – it’s Thai folks but I’ll have to try it myself vs judging from the outside.
Pho Ga Vang was really good, surprised that didn’t make your top pho list
Just had Banh today — always a favorite
No District Saigon!?
Have you found a good bun cha anywhere? I have not.
La Dong had a solid attempt and the owner seemed motivated to improve. I haven’t been since it first opened. Saigon Social looked the part, but doesn’t hit the spot. Hanoi House’s portions were offensively small for the price, and also not good.
It surprises me how many places batch make all their phin coffee. It’s never as good that way.
Dude I don’t know man. I went to di an di based on your rec and it is not good pho. Overpriced and non-traditional is the antithesis of what’s supposed to be a simple soup. I even caught some of the staff at a nearby bar and they recommended anything but the pho lol.
Thx for ur effort though
Thank you! This is awesome.
Curious if you’ve tried Diem Eatery in Brooklyn. Very good bahn mi in particular
I don’t know a ton about Vietnamese food, but I was so happy with La Dong. Also at Pho Ga Vang some of the sauces reminded me of the really exciting sauces at Mam, plus beautifully cooked proteins and great broth
This is awesome, thank you
As a diasporic viet, Banh in the UWS is still top for me.
Amazing list!
Would anyone happen to know where I can find Nem Chua in the city, please?
Bahn hands down. When I was living in upper Manhattan it was our fave spot. And not overpriced too
Oh man I got some work to do
Have you been to Pho 75 in philly? Would love to see how that compares to any NYC pho. There’s nothing in the city that scratches that itch for me the same way just yet
What happened to com tam ninh kieu’s menu? I haven’t been in a minute???
Ha’s Đặc Biệt’s permanent location should be opening any day now. They now have a Resy page up so im excited to see what you think of it, especially with how much of a reputation their popups had.
Also, just had to ask. Do you have a favorite banh mi? Would love to know where your favorites come from.
Good list! Would suggest checking out Pho Tay Ho in Brooklyn! And thank you for not including those fusion with Malaysian/Thai Viet spots.
Lil different but sen saigon does vegan viet and its so bomb
Hopefully someday there’ll be Vietnamese restaurants in the other three boroughs.
Just tried La Dong this week! Was very excited to see this update pop up in my feed just now!!
Have you tried cyclo in Long Island city? I’ve only had pho like 4 times. The first was at a friends house homemade and it was one of the best things i ever ate. I had it at pho bang and lotus 31 and those were both very disappointing; the broths were just so weak compared to what my friend had made. Then i had it at cyclo and it blew those 2 out of the water and at least reminded me what was so great about what i had at my friends.
Try Ly Ly on the UES – just opened a couple weeks ago.
Saigon Banh Mi near little Italy is unreal.
I’ve only had the high Lua Banh mi and was sorely disappointed but will have to try the pho.
How about V-Nam cafe for pho in East village? Been going to for many years and it always hits
Favorite spot for Com Tam? Bo Ne Phu Yen? Also looking for good Nem Nuong or just a place that sells it so I can make it at home.
Spent 7 years in San Jose which has the largest population of Vietnamese in the US. The food in general is better in New York but severely lacking in good Vietnamese food. Excited to go through this list.
Mam is fantastic. You have to try it. Banh mi co ut is the best banh mi place in nyc. Kitchen co ut is fantastic.
