I love the whole experience from seed to maturity. 2nd year grower .. very pleased with last year’s harvest. Something about the satisfaction of doing it on your own knowing the risk of failure is always there. Plus I am absolutely obsessed with hot peppers haha so there’s that. Good luck everyone!

  2. FieldOfDreams92

I grew peppers for the first time this last summer and I’m hooked. Absolutely addicted. I love seeing the outcome of all the peppers. I think it’s amazing that open pollination can slightly change a pepper over time. It blows my mind how much each type of pepper has their own flavor profile but can pack extreme heat or subtle sweetness. Such a unique plant that adds a great outcome to a favorite dish.

  3. JimStinkwater

Love making hot sauces and adding them to anything else I make, but eating them right off the plant is my favorite

  4. Jez_Andromeda

They taste great, lots of fun to grow and gives me something different to collect😄 Gotta get those seeds, lol

  5. Pretend_Order1217

I love making Mexican food and grew tired of just being able to get green Serranos and Jalapeños locally.

  6. Leading_Impress_350

There’s nothing better than starting a life and see it mature into this fruit that’s unique from all the others! The only drawback, they will burn you one way of the other! Wait? Did you ask about relationships or peppers!🤣🤣

I’ve always been a fussy eater when it comes to vegetables, but peppers have always had a soft spot in my heart. As such, peppers were one of the first vegetables that came to mind when I thought of starting my gardening journey. This year has been my first year of growing peppers, and whilst I’ve had my challenges, it’s been incredibly exciting and rewarding experience that’s got me hooked!

Best of luck to everyone else!

For me, my dad and my brother it started out as a challenge, who could eat the hottest, who could find something so hot that the others burned out. Now, it’s turned into looking forward to trying something new together. My brother started growing them first, and now we’re all 3 growing and comparing notes constantly. It’s actually turned into a family bonding type thing.

  9. ShogunPeppers

I grow peppers to put fire in the lives of people and burn their world with my hot peppers 🥰🥰

  10. coughcough

I like to make my own sauces and jelly to give away to friends and family. I like trying new varieties and see how they stack up against those against others I’ve grown (ease of growth, susceptibility to BER, ect.). I like learning!

  11. Best of luck everyone!

My neighborhood does a good exchange, where we give everyone some of what we grew, and in turn the neighbors make food to share with the ingredients we all grew and have a big dinner at harvest. Its my favorite thing about moving back home with my mom

  12. OffToTheLizard

Peppers are wonderfully unique. Getting to grow plants that thrive in hot conditions, and recreating those in grow tents and the yard remind me of why I look forward to summer every year!

Side note, what is that peach charapita? I’m trying to keep a fugly charapita cross going, so when my favorite pepper comes up I gotta know.

  13. KindredSpiritsCSG

Growing peppers is such a fulfilling experience. From planting the seeds, to enjoying the ripe pods. Then creating sauces with them or just eating them straight. Each pepper has its own character and personality and has its own unique way of being used and enjoyed.

This a great blend for anyone just starting out or even into the hobby for years.

  14. Odd-Sail5150

I think what draws me to peppers is the fact that they are such a unique fruit bearing plant (both in terms of spice and looks). It is so interesting to see how certain crosses of plants manifest into some pretty bizarre phenotypes. Also, given that they can reasonably live for as long as you take care of them, the opportunity to cultivate very unique bonsai plants interests me as well. They are funky and I like that!

  15. Robopoppa

I started growing peppers because I was not satisfied with the hot sauces I could get. Either they were flavorful or they were hot but rarely both. I took it as a personal challenge to make the sauces that I wanted. Now I’m four years into it with a dozen different sauces that friends and family beg me for. It’s a rewarding passion for me because I get the flavor and heat I want and have plenty to share

  16. Scrappyz_zg

Hot sauces and different pods you can’t buy at the store!

  17. Highwayteddybear

Yo tengo más de 6 años creciendo picantes 🌶️ en Dallas Texas. Este año crecí como 9 plantas de habaneros y todavía están dando.

  18. FeedMeEthereum

I absolutely love the ability to grow new peppers I’d never be able to find at stores around me. Doing the research on when they’re ripe. Babying them in the early months. Watching the first fruits pop up and go through their color changes! Finally getting to pluck one off the bush, rinse it off and take a bite; every time is a surprise as to what you get and it’s just so dang fun!!

  19. BillyTell69

I enjoy the entire process planting, feeding, watering, tending, obviously harvest and even wintering. I love experimenting with different strains to create unique hot sauce blends, salsas and more. Pepper to the people!

  20. Love watching them grow from seeds, to little buds, maturity then full blown fruit bearing. I’ve made my own crushed and ground pepper, salsa and hot sauces with what I have grown. Always looking for new peppers I can add.

  21. I like the challenge! Some plants are so easy to grow and others give me a hard time. Peppers usually give me a hard time, so any fruits I harvest feel like I worked a lot to get them. Then they make me cry, so I guess they win?

  22. AgentOrange256

I love making sauce and dried powders! Never knew before a year or two ago how much I’d love the little guys – but man these things keep me up at night!

  23. I’ve been gardening for over 20+ years, I grew Jalapeños and cayenne for a few years, discovered a habanero has so much more flavor, then dabbled off into Datil’s. The last 3 years have been those two untill finding this reddit this summer, now I’ve added 10 different peppers. They are easy and rewarding, I use them dehydrated and ground up on everything from oatmeal to rotel dip. Sometimes you need that burn just to feel alive! Don’t even bring up making pepper jelly and grilling it in a slab of beef. OMG!
Please don’t pick me, I will plant them and have them coming out of my ears!

  24. ChicagoJay2020

Having grown peppers from seeds this year, (a first for me ) it’s the real sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in seeing something throughout its entire life cycle.

  25. I used to grow marijuana. Moving to peppers has been just as exciting and fulfilling as marijuana. Ther are so many little things we can during a grow to influence the end product. I learn something new every day. So many varieties to grow. I havent even experimented in making my own crosses yet. There is so much already done in that aspect. I grow hydro indoor and have a soil garden outdoors in the warm months. It freezes here early so this spring im putting up a greenhouse to hopefully get the peppers to full ripe on the plant.

  26. Tampwns6104

I got diagnosed with cancer, non Hodgkin’s lymphoma, stage 4 a couple of years ago.
While on chemo and now recovering, my immune system was crap of course so I’ve been pretty much a home body in order to avoid getting sick and kind of dealing with people since I look pretty crappy atm. It’s all food though I’m fairly introverted as is.
I was never into gardening but seeing the varieties and crosses with sp many colours and flavours, it feels like there is an element of creativity involved , or artisticness in your grows.
I’ve only really just got into peppers, but I’ve grown scorpions, Ghosts, African and sugar rush stripey.

Still quiet new to it all though.

  27. GoatGh0st

I love the feeling of unlocking the “unlimited food hack” 😍 It feels like I’m tapping into something us young people were ment to forget. Growing and making your own food should be taught to every teen 👌

Hot peppers are just the most *fun* item to grow because they can make so many different items!

  28. sans_the_sleeper

I like growing peppers because I eat them with almost every meal. It is satisfying to just walk outside and pick them fresh from the plant.

  29. Excellent_Treat_3515

I like to grow pepper seeds to have different varieties of pepper at home that I can’t easily find in store in my hometown. But what I prefer the most is to transform the peppers into sauce, powder or put into recipes.

  30. Timely-Condition-716

Winner winner hot sauce dinner! I like the experience you can get from growing your own peppers. It’s a sense of pride.

  31. Brassdragon14

I love seeing them fruit with my son and with my kids at work. There are so many varieties of peppers, and each of them teaches us something new about growing and about how something which is basically the same can come out so different.

  32. jjwoodworking

It’s fun to grow food then eat it. Peppers come in so many flavors that each plant gives a different experience

  33. thehotpepperguy

Nothing better than seeing something you care for flourish and being able to enjoy some of the most delicious peppers out there with much more variety than what can be obtained at the store

  34. Spacebarpunk

Ohhh I could use this to grow a huge batch then regift seeds

  35. I enjoy growing peppers because I enjoy giving people the gift of food and taste. Creating hot sauce and pepper flakes are a great way to give somebody the gift of flavor that doesn’t go bad within a week (slowly looking over at my beautiful wife and her sourdough).

  36. spicyytao

I always enjoyed eating spicy and buying different style of hot sauces and my girlfriend really likes plants and taking care of them, growing hot peppers became our little thing.

  37. TheCatAteMyFace

It’s so much fun and rewarding to grow something from seed. It’s even better to have a bunch of hot peppers to taste and make sauces with. Happy growing everyone 💛🧡❤️💚

  38. What I love is that you don’t need to grow than MUCH to enjoy them. One hot pepper can make a dish but most other veggie you need pounds and pounds to properly enjoy.

Also there are so many unique variety’s with cool shapes and colors. It never gets old

  39. OkFirefighter8295

I love being able to share my latest food creations with friends and family. I find that each type of pepper fermentation takes on its own unique flavor (for better and worse) and fresh chili powders are top notch. Growing your own gives you access to varieties that you wouldn’t have otherwise

  40. Great variety and color and you really never know what you are going to get with some of these crosses and open pollination

  41. MoreTendiesPlz

I love growing, processing, and cooking with my two sons! They forgot all about the “one chip challenge” once they realized we could grow our own in the garden and the hydro closet in the garage! My youngest is a fireball and true chili head 🙂

  42. amandapant1

It’s fun to grow something. I enjoy making my own hot sauce so doing it from seed to jar would be great.

  43. I have loved my evolution of growing, cooking and preserving my own food. I love spicy things and it’s been so fun growing a variety of peppers and trying them out in different hot sauces, jellies, and pickling options (my fave!).
