This seems like a really nice deal for $55, it's the lowest price I've seen. Should I go for it?

You could also checkout inkbird for a cheaper one. The inkbird also doesn’t have an app that requires a subscription. In the end it’s a simple device.

Never used an Anova, but have seen enough negative comments that I decided not to get one.

If it was me making the decision I would buy an InkBird WiFi 1000 watt, new or new/open box for $45-$55 on eBay.

All Anova is a hard no from me after they introduced a subscription for their app. I have no other way to combat corp greed other than to not buy so I’d avoid.

I’ve had an Anova Culinary AN500 for five years now, and have never had a problem. I may also not have been the most gentle with it. 🤷‍♂️

It depends if you consider the app access as important. I’ve used an Anova without the app for ~10 years. I didn’t like the requirement to use an app with the Joule. I would also consider brands like Inkbird.
