Another 88 Krug… starting to feel I need more variety in my repertoire.
This was darker in color than the last 88 I had a while back. The nose showed the complexities that come with age but was still very vibrant nonetheless. Very mild reduction to start that blew off pretty quickly. A mild toastiness was prevalent throughout the evening and the progression on the nose went something like; martinelli’s apple cider -> bland toasty krug -> brandy with a hint of citrus and caramel.
Wine still had bubbles that disappeared fairly quickly in glass.
Palate was fairly tart to begin with with searing acidity – think green apples, yeast and a touch of marmalade. Over time, the tartness and acidity mellowed out and started showing notes of brown butter, pine nuts and a touch of stone fruit sweetness.
Was paired with a casual French meal and paired exceptionally well with the pork belly.
