I was thinking of making that recipe and the recipe says to use 1 lb dried red beans so that's what I got at the store. Dried beans you usually have to soak them before cooking them but I thought it is different when using a slow cooker…lol will they still cook properly in the crock pot if I don't soak them first?

i would soak them first. That process usually is longer than what you would slow cook them at anyway
I’ve never not soaked them. I’d imagine it would take a lot longer to cook?
Soak first. I would soak overnight and rinse them well. Put back on stove and boil a couple hours. I change the boiling water and rinse the beans a couple more times until they are soft enough. The extra rinsing helps remove chemicals that contribute to flatulence.
An alternative to soaking dried beans overnight is to simply cover them with lots of water (about twice the depth of the beans in the pot) and bring them to a boil for a few minutes. Let them sit for an hour and then cook. I add the salt to the beans as they boil. The beans will soak up a LOT of water, so keep an eye on them,
I made that exact recipe last week to the letter! It was fantastic, and no need to soak the beans. 👍
Supposedly you don’t but I’ve never had beans of any sort come out properly in the slow cooker if I haven’t.
Yeah soak then boil them before using in a slow cooker, otherwise you’ll be cramping up with intestinal issues after.
Kidney beans have a toxin (Lectin) that needs to be boiled off.
As someone who decided that they didn’t need to soak the beans… you have to soak the beans. My partner and I had awful stomach cramps and traded off time on the toilet. Please. Please learn from my mistakes and soak the beans.
Heating them is the important bit., for detoxing. However I understood the minimum slow temperature is higher these days, and precookung red beans is no longer necessary?

I cook pinto beans every week in a slow cooker or pressure cooker. I use dry beans and never presoak them. Red beans should be fine without presoaking.
Soak for 2 reasons. 1. Cook quicker. 2. Soak then dump water they were soaked in to reduce gas.
Yes, crock just long cooks – no pressure. You can do un-soaked beans in an instapot or similar but not really in a crock pot
We never soaked them. I’m from Eastern Washington, and I grew up not far from Royal City, where they grew dried beans. My dad seemed to know all the farmers and would get all the dry beans possible (he’d give a couple hundred pounds to 2 of our aunties [1 from each side of the family], he’d donate some to the carpenter ‘s union food bank and a local food bank. But when he made beans, we’d spread them out on the table looking for split beans & bad ones, rocks & twings/branches. Then he’d toss them into the crock pot and let her cook for a day. Some where in there, and he’d drain the fluid & start adding stuff (say red beans, tomato sauce, seasonings, and cooked hamburger, onion)
Or cook on high
Wow this recipe is grossly negligent. A lot of people have likely already gotten sick from not boiling their kidney beans after soaking.
Been cooking a soup with kidney (and white) beans in a crock pot on high all day for over 30 years. Not dead. No stomach cramps (or whatever). Not particularly lucky. FWIW.
Pro tip get a few boxes of cornbread mix to go along with this. Personally I prefer red beans over cornbread instead of red beans over rice.
Try this one. No fuss.
