After seeing multiple posts about McDs rehydrated onions recently, I caved at lunch today and got a burger there; apparently not all locations use them?
I’m not complaining at all, I asked for extra and they definitely listened, but it’s normal onion slices. Just curious since all the photos I’ve seen lately have been tiny rehydrated pieces.

It likely depends on the sandwich. Get a cheeseburger/hamburger/mcdouble and you’ll get the rehydrated onions

You can also sub slivered onions for the dehydrated ones as well
JensElectricWood
The quarter pounders all come with fresh onion now but you can request the other onions as an add on for no extra cost.

Try the triple cheese next time with extra onion, it’s the way to go and like half the cost of a Qpndr

Looks like you got the quarter pounder with cheese. The quarter pounder is the only burger at McDonald’s that comes with “slivered onions” instead of the minced ones.

Could be the holiday season has thrown off their regular deliveries and they’ve run low on standardized ingredients so they got in some onions to dice and use fresh. I went to the store for a few things the other day and noticed a lot of gaps on some of the shelves.
MurphyBeans
My wife askes for them in place of the regular onions.

Yeah, as others have stated. It’s based on the sandwich.
The basic cheeseburger is where it’s at ratio wise. imo

Are we talking diced vs sliced?

You can request slivered onions pretty much anytime, as well as the dehydrated onions.
BEFORE the pandemic, you could get grilled onions in the morning (from the steak bagel ingredients), but once bagels left, it’s been done for, same as breakfast sauce. I used to request slivered onions, grilled onions, and breakfast sauce for my cheaper breakfast sandwiches before they pulled bagels.
Edit: Yes, bagels are back in most regions. However, McDonald’s is charging extra for just about anything they can, so it’s an upcharge most times. Some places are charging $0.30-$0.45 per item to add onions and other toppings. Tomatoes are often $0.50.

McDonald’s onions are the worse thing to ever happen to onions

I like the old style Ragu pasta sauce cus it has the dehydrated onions too

On sandwiches like this (qtr pounder, old deluxe burgs) they use fresh onions. There was recently a salmonella (i think) recall on these, so these burgers did not use the fresh onions for a while. Apparently they use them again

QPCs and bugger burgers use slivered onions, the smaller burgers use the rehydrated ones

you can buy dehydrated onions in the spice section of most grocery stores and just rehydrate them yourself. i like to add throw them straight into a sauce and let them rehydrate that way. makes a great homemade thousand island/mac sauce

quarterpounders use fresh onions, sliders use rehydrated onions
i_can_has_rock
they have both kinds

IIRC from, oh, 30 years ago. All 10-1 patty sandwiches get recon(stituted) onions. All 4-1 patty sandwiches get slivered onions. From a bag, but still an actual onion.
10-1 (10 patties to a pound) means your regular hamburgers, double cheeseburgers, big macs, etc. 4-1 are all quarter pounder style sandwiches.

A QPC dressed up as a Big Mac is amazing. Extra onions and extra pickles of course.

Lol you don’t know much about McDons do ya
(I am ashamed that I feel like this should be common knowledge)
