After waiting about half my life to make it down from Toronto, my wife and I spent Christmas in NYC. After a lot of reading here and researching old Bourdain videos I ended up with the following:
Miznon: Steak and Egg Pita. 10/10, no notes
Nonono: Ramen pictured, about 10 other things not. Food and drinks here were fantastic, exactly the type of place my wife and I love equally.
Sweet Chick: A salad the wife got, Nashville Boneless with bacon cheddar waffle, and hush puppies. All around great, the hush puppies and remoulade were the standout.
Lucali: We brought a nice dry Brunello and got half margherita and half pepperoni and shallot at the waitress’ recommendation. Vibes were immaculate, every bite was like the first bite.
Keens: Mutton Saddle, hashbrown, creamed spinach. Everything I wanted it to be, though the creamed spinach was too rich for me to finish. Wife wasn’t a fan, but steaks aren’t her vibe.
Balthazaar for Christmas Day brunch. Pastry Basket and Eggs in Purgatory. Not only was the food amazing, the service was impeccable.
Socarrat: Squid Ink Paella. All around solid, food exceeded expectations, space and service were a bit lacklustre.
Frankels: Ordered pastrami egg and cheese, got brisket egg and cheese, wife got the A1. Still our second favourite breakfast after Balthazaar.
Dani’s House of Pizza: Rapper Meyhem Lauren has raved about this place for years and it was well worth it, part of an overall Queens food tour that I forgot to take a lot of pics of.
L’Industrie: Not pictured because I was in the pic with the slice. The crust in particular was absolute perfection.
Caffe Dante: My tailor insisted I check this place out and it was the only place we went to twice, my wife wants one of their watercolours for our house. Enough said.
Barney Greengrass: Vibes on zero, but the Sturgeon and Egg was far superior to the Pastrami Egg and Cheese imo, although both were great.
Red Rooster: Amazing for a spot like this to be in an area like that, Shrimp and Grits for me, Seafood Pasta for the wife, both were amazing, but the only portions all week that too big for us to finish.

yum. they have miznon in toronto
All the dishes look so good….
Miznon is the only place where I’ve gotten three sandwiches in one sitting lmao
Solid. Well played.
Everything looks amazing! Glad you and your wife seemed to have a lovely time. How long did you have to wait for a table at Lucali?
Y’all come back now, ya hear?
You did really well! Good job with all the eating.
I disagree with you about the vibes at Barney Greengrass. Old school. It’s like stepping back into history.
Y’all know how to research, way to go.
Solid!!
You know what you are doing.
Congrats!!
I’m not sure if I totally agree on the Barney Greengrass vibes or vehemently disagree — the vibes there are *something* for sure. Excellent food journey. Thanks for sharing.
You put some work into this. Respect.
Daaaaaamn. Best post ever. Thanks for taking the time to photo and take notes.
You made it out to Dani’s and did a queen’s tour. You are good people.
Wdym “in a place like that” re: Red Rooster? 😭
Go on Streeteasy and see how much our apartments cost!
Very refreshing seeing someone try more places but typically mentioned. Well researched!
Shouts to you for exploring the Queens food scene 💪🏽💪🏽
Edit: and for the Mayhem Lauren s/o too!!
Looks great, and it’s nice to see that you did some exploring.
Frankels for 2nd best breakfast? Sheesh, I took that place for granted I guess, living 10 mins away from it. It’s fine but not amazing IMO
fire itinerary. you did your research well.
Based on this, I can tell you’re serious about your food. Let us know which Toronto spots we should hit up 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Glad you had a great time in NY ❤️
Yes to Dani’s! It’s right by my pottery studio so I would always grab a slice after class
How long was the wait for Lucali?
Barney Greengrass is still a place in the city that a server will yell at you if you order incorrectly, and the food is so good.
Miznon is incredible!!!!!
