Inspired by the recent best pastries list, and in no particular order, some of the best baked goods I had this year:

    1) Pumpkin croissant – Sugar Moon Bakery – Logan Square

    2) Fig Danish – Fat Peach Bakery – Bridgeport

    3) Strawberry rhubarb galette – Sweet Rabbit Bakery – Roscoe Village

    4) Marzipan donut – Grano – Back of the Yards

    5) Fig pistachio croissant – Sauce & Bread Kitchen – Edgewater/Rogers Park

    6) Almond croissant & various pastries – Bellbird Bakeshop – La Grange, IL

    7) Strawberry cookie – Bake – Wicker Park

    8) Miso, black sesame, chocolate chip cookies – Jo Sun Bakery popup @ Side Practice – Ravenswood

    9) Pastel de nata (regular & almond) & scone – Cadinho Bakery – McKinley Park

    10) Calamansi cruffin & ube basque cheesecake – Del Sur Bakery @ Side Practice – Ravenswood

    11) Ube canelé – Dan the Baker (now Bad Butter) – popup – West Loop

That pumpkin croissant looks like something I’d trade a limb for.

What the hell. I live in the area and I’ve never heard of Fat Peach Bakery. Time to go check it out. Thanks!

Psyched to see a Sauce & Bread Kitchen shoutout in one of these posts – I live nearby and am sad we only recently discovered them. Hidden gem for sure!

Wow! We gotta meet up for a bakery crawl sometime, I’m absolutely serious

I’ve been on the hunt for a pistachio croissant in Chicago, and that fig & pistachio combination looks delectable!

That fig danish is the kind of thing I could bring home and be declared a hero. Hopefully they do those again next season.

Have you been to Geraldine’s in Lincoln Square?

Wow, that fig & pistachio croissant sounds insane. I need it

  10. I had the calamansi cruffin @ Side Practice too, I still think about it! couldn’t remember the name of the fruit so I’m glad you did
