Was gifted this from a regular at my restaurant. I am a fan of burgundy Pinot noir or a really dry cab. When I have dinner parties I usually get a bunch of very good to very decent bottles that I know will be great. Do I save it or enjoy to myself. My friends are casual wine drinkers but appreciate great wine.

Vanilla bomb and the worst vintage since 2011. Gift it or drink. This style isn’t meant to be saved.

Regift it to a guy in the insurance or financial industry. It’ll pay dividends. Not worth drinking for the price.

  3. 2020 vintage was effected by fires/smoke.

    Drink or regift!

it was a gift. you got nothing to lose by giving it a try.

everybody likes to shit on the wine. you can be one of the guys that likes it.

  5. People in this sub hate on it, i think it’s true that its over priced, but it really is a nice wine especially when its free, id say drink it, its not good enough to save for a long time because you may be disappointed that its not amazing. But it is a nice tasting wine.

I’d rather drink Franzia Chillable Red. At least they’re honest at what it is.

Caymus is about as old guard as it gets. Very bloated, doesn’t really age all that well on account of having basically zero acidity. That vintage particularly, if I recall correctly, had problems with fires so it’s not well regarded. It’s a very well recognized bottle, so as a re-gift it could work like a charm, probably to someone like a doctor, lawyer, or the like who care more about posting a wine on instagram than about what the actual wine is like. I wouldn’t hold or drink it personally, though

This tastes like grape juice to me. If you are a fan of Burgundy Pinot then you would fucking hate this bottle.

Unfortunately you have yourself a bit of a mirage. It seems like it should be a nice bottle but wine people already hate on Caymus and 2020 was a notoriously bad vintage. So what I say is get some friends together, cook a couple nice steaks, decant it for a bit and drink it down. It’s still going to be among the better wines you ever have and it’ll create an enjoyable night. But it’s probably not a wine to store or invest in.

Use it to unclog a toilet bowl. It’s undrinkable swill.

Would be a very good gag gift for a friend who’s a wine snob

Many of the “fire” wines were on a fire sale at 50% off due to the fires and how they impacted the flavour. Not sure how this turned out, but have it with some smoked meat and it will probably all blend together. Caymus makes good wine and is known for their “Special Selection” Cab which is very nice. Definitely better value wines out there, but can’t fault them for being successful (and wines increasing in cost) due to their reputation for producing great wine.
