I use a recipe from a YouTube video by Max La Manna. You don’t need to buy special rings or molds for them either, I just use the rings from mason jar lids and it works perfectly!

Is this not just an English muffin?

  2. While these look great and id happily eat them, they are missing the holes that define a crumpet. I would have mistaken them for a muffin. (The bread type, not the cake type).

Crumpets are very good, but I still prefer a delicious southern biscuit

The dough may be crumpet, but the cooking method you’ve used is english muffin. A crumpet would not be flipped and cooked on both sides on its initial cook. That’s closes up the lovely air holes that are meant to trap all the melted butter.

Can you post a link to the recipe? I can’t seem to find it

I read “squishy crabs” and got a little worried about what you’re cooking

They’re like English muffins, but so much better!

No, were not! I can go out and buy a pack now at 3 different stores around me in Oklahoma.

I just think Americans prefer English muffins more, though. idk 🤷‍♀️

I love crumpets. I usually just buy them from TJs but perhaps I should give it a shot.

King Arthur flour has a crumpet recipe from sourdough discard that is super easy and yummy! I love crumpets (and English muffins).

Yes but have you tried making the batter before bed, and pulling it out of the fridge in the morning? Overnight crumpets are a gift from heaven. But yeah you’re flipping these puppies FAR too early. Cook em 95% on one side, and then just flip for the last few seconds to crisp up the top side. Don’t wanna close up all those honey containment holes.

For those wanting a recipe, I find this approach from retired English baker John Kirkwood gives amazing crumpets.

For best results, if you are American, order some English plain white flour. The wheat from Europe has a different ratio of starch to protein. It doesn’t make a huge difference, though. You can use American all-purpose flour, but I prefer Marriage’s plain white flour.

I usually make some with my sourdough discard between feedings. I also don’t bother with the rings. I think that technically makes them a pikelet though.

We sleep on a lot of things tbh

I think the main thing people are missing out on (especially in this sub) is that you can make crumpets very easily with sourdough “discard”. I don’t maintain a starter at the moment but when I did I couldn’t bear throwing away so much of it on the regs, so I always made crumpets, and they were amazing.

“Muuum. There’s no holes in my crumpets?”

It’s just a flat biscuit, calm down! Looks super fluffy tho!
