Egyptian-Style Crispy Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients

For the batter:

1 cup flour

½ cup corn starch

20 cloves of garlic

1 green bell pepper (finely shopped in the food processor with the garlic)

1 tbsp cumin

Salt to taste

Chili peppers (optional, for extra heat)

1 tsp baking powder

Juice of 1 lime

For the shrimp:

Shrimp, peeled and deveined

Oil for frying

Instructions

1. Prepare the Batter:

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, corn starch, cumin, baking powder, and salt.

Add the crushed garlic, chopped green bell pepper, and lime juice. Mix well.

Gradually add water until the batter reaches a thick, smooth consistency that will coat the shrimp well.

2. Coat the Shrimp:

Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel.

Dip each shrimp into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Or add all the shrimps to the batter and fry one by one.

3. Fry the Shrimp:

Heat oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat.

Carefully place the coated shrimp into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 1-2 minutes per side.

Remove and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

4. Serve and Enjoy:

Serve as a standalone appetizer with your favorite dipping sauce.

For a fun twist, serve in a baguette with tahini sauce or as shrimp tacos with pico de gallo.
