Falling in love with Burgundy more and more… Paired this beautiful Pinot Noir with some Roastbeef, fried and glazed vegetables as well as some parsnip purée. The wine had a very feminine, almost Barbaresco-esque like smell. Noticeable wood, something akin to rose petals and/or violets, hints of mild pepper, cherry liqueur, very well integrated dusty tannins, perhaps some tobacco. Overall velvety and elegant, yet so expressive and complex. I am so delighted that this is so elegant and resting in itself whilst being so expressive but nuanced. Can’t wait to get a taste of more appellations of the Côte de Nuits.

I think Mongeard-Mugneret is one of the very best producers for folks hoping to get into burgundy. The wines have lovely texture and fruit, in their youth they’re generally gregarious and friendly, with enough ripeness and wood to please a seasoned Russian River head but never over the top or gaudy. They remain solid values, their lower end wines are straight up yummy, and with age they tend to ease into a wonderful old school sous bois-ness that I find incredibly compelling.

I’ve had this exact wine, exact producer, not on purpose – after a bottle of champagne of course
