Some years ago I decided that French Toast is a good New Year’s Day breakfast. It’s pretty much the only time of year I eat it, maybe because the bread helps soak up the alcohol and bad decisions from the night before.
Here are five images of French Toast from Austin restaurants dating back to 2020. In order they are:
- Sawyer & Co – 2025
- Kerby Lane – 2024
- Kerby Lane – 2023
- Better Half – 2022
- Bonneville – 2020
My favorite was at Bonneville (RIP) but the Sawyer plate was solid, too. Nothing for 2021 because… pandemic.

Love this! Also confirms how sad Kirby lane is 😢
I enjoyed magnolia cafe on lake Austin more than kerbey personally.
All the French toasts look good except the kerbey lane one. The second kerbey I’m not sure what’s going on with that bread. Can’t tell if it’s wheat or what
Was Kerby 23’ or 24’ better?
Phoebe’s Diner bananas foster French toast. You’re welcome.
Snooze’s omg French toast is 🤌
i cant vouche for it because im not much of a french toast guy but ive heard the creme brulee french toast at chez zee is pretty solid.
Any french toast that is made with thin loaf bread is a complete dealbreaker IMO. That’s lazy cooking and will never be top tier. Really sad to see KL downgrade from ’23 to ’24.
Kerbey lane just looks sad lol
What a cute tradition! Might have to steal that for next year.
South congress cafe’s french toast will be missed.
