Hi, I bought a new house and this rusty grill was included.
It is a (pretty heavy) metal structure that fits in an outdoors fireplace with a chimney. The charcoal is placed in a steel box that fits right beneath the grates. The grates cannot be separated from the rest of the structure.
The picture I am attaching is after working on it for over an hour and going through a bottle of white vinegar. At this point, I am wondering if this big-ass piece of metal is worth to keep working on it as I dont see if it will be that much more convenient to cook on it.
I'm thinking that a Weber Kettle can fit just fine beneath the fireplace chimney and I should go for that. Any opinions on which way will be more convenient to venture on grilling for the first time?

Could potentially be salvated with some sanding and seasoning, but I bet the scrap metal payback could buy you most of a new kettle.
I’d move on. Your time and hassle isn’t worth it
If you have space and enjoy grilling, keep it. Looks like it gets really hot and could produce some great searing.
Yes, not much rust
Heat, scrape wipe off and cook something
Fire it up, put some fat on the grate and get to cooking
