This is our second most favorite salsa from the taco spot we go to. Would like to decipher it with all your help.
We usually go trough 4-6 salsa cups of the avocado salsa and a half container of this stuff,
Just because it’s so spicy, but has really good flavor.
I was talking to the cashier/ guy in charge, and he said he only recently tried it and regretted it because it’s so spicy, he has been there for 2+ years, so he doesn’t even know how it’s made or what’s in it.
It’s really dark red /brown. Kinda thick and spicy, with really good flavor. I can’t pick out any specific ingredients in it. The only thing I can say is that spicyness kind of lingers. Sometimes I do go crazy with it because it’s so good but then can feel it the next day…
Any ideas? Thanks!

Looks like it’s got oil in it and I would guess chile de arbol. I’ve made similar looking salsas with those.
That’s a fuck ton of oil
I’ve been searching for a recipe for this as well and haven’t quite come across what exactly is all in it. Commenting so I can return if someone hopefully posts a recipe to it.
Do you taste Chipotle maybe?
I know I’ve been commenting this alot lately but that color looks like chili Japones . Japones is not spicy on its own so likely some Arbol added for 🔥
here’s my recipe https://www.reddit.com/r/SalsaSnobs/s/nQ3aDQ8mlZ
Folks here may help you narrow down the likely candidates but you’ll really need to go buy multiple chili types at the market and smell/taste them to make a positive ID
Looks almost like salsa tlaquepaque. Some add instant coffee but I never have. Looks like it’s been cooked in a ton of oil!
This is salsa de chile seco, all it is is roasted chile de árbol , garlic cloves and a little bit of water
Salsa de arbol
Arnietex on YouTube has a great list of recipes on his channel, at the top, including salsas broken down by type. Goldmine
