It affects the whole staff when it's a problem.

Yeah I’ve seen these, it’s a new thing. It is the new way to 86 people. People are afraid of getting sued or starting a fight. If you tell someone to leave and they don’t , you have the legal right to remove them with as much force as necessary. Don’t forget that. People will be assholes.

  2. GatoAmarillo

    Nice trophy!

edit: I thought you were a customer

  3. Toastburrito

This would not have worked on the asshole we had the other night. I wish I had the willpower to type it all out.

  4. ravens-n-roses

I mean these are fine, but I feel like if you’re drunk enough to be cut off you’re either A. Gonna be an asshole no matter what. B. Too drunk to read. Or C. Are too drunk to be embarrassed about getting cut off.

  5. ExpertRaccoon

The only problem I see is that if they are fucked up enough to be cut off and told to leave, chances are they are too fucked up to read and comprehend that card.

  6. turningsteel

“Hmmm what’s this? You giving me your number?”

“Cut..cutoff?! What the fuck?! Who the hell do you think you are? Cutting me off? I only had 25 beers and a boilermaker. Light work I tell ya.”

I imagine that’s how these go, but I’d love to be wrong.

  7. NeatWhiskeyPlease

    This is a bad idea.

People who are cut off often need kid gloves to prevent them from reacting like a drunk person would.

This type of response is too confrontational (or they just can’t read it) which will lead to larger problems.

  8. Reinardus_Vulpes

Those are a horrible idea except for certain circumstances involving a group and the person might care about how they look or with regulars at a bar.

Other than that I’d be asking how did they get that messed up to need to be cutoff and who over-served them. Let’s not pretend most places or people err on the side of caution when it comes to serving people. At that point this just becomes a liability connecting the bar to whatever dumb crap they do.

  9. cameron4200

Why not just not over serve them in the first place. They straight up have to leave?

  10. maybejustadragon

    Great.

I’m wasted and now I have a two papers with tiny blurry writing and apparently the message is important or something.

  11. Expert-Host5442

Just another sign of how messed up the industry is. If you need these you have a much bigger problem.

  12. snowocean84

Idk, if your place is having to cut off people so often that you are buying cards for it maybe the problem isn’t the guests.

  13. This is dumb as shit. If you’re cutting people off, they’re not only not going to read this, they’re going to think you’re trying to play go fish or something. Like what do you think alcohol is

  14. Whorrorfied

Bold of you to assume the person you’re cutting off can see straight enough to read.

  15. zackatzert

“I see where you want to go; and unfortunately I can’t take you there.” With a big smile and a glass of water has been my go to.

  16. BadassBokoblinPsycho

In Texas, an establishment can be liable if they knowingly sent someone drunk out on the road.

These cards should be edited to say “we’ll call you a cab to take you home”.

  17. prolifezombabe

I saw this in the bartenders sub. I don’t think it’s a good idea. When I cut people off I don’t use the words “you’re cut off”. There’s two or three scenarios: in one, they came in drunk and I’m not going to serve them, in the second they come in almost too drunk and I first give them water as a way of saying I see what’s going on here then I serve them slowly and keep an eye on them, in the third I’m the one who let them have too much.

I try not to let the third one happen by keeping an eye on how much someone is drinking and how they’re behaving. At the first sign that things are getting out of hand I slow down, offer water etc.

In all three cases I would use my words. I say things like “it’s been a big night I think we’ve got to slow things down a bit” or “hey dude I think that’s going to be it for today but I’ll see you next time” or “okay I think it’s time get going”. Often I can point to the specific behaviour that is the reason: “sorry bud you’re falling asleep, I think it’s time to take off” or “once people start knocking things over, I’ve got to call it”.

Most people take the hint at the point where I’m slowing down service and giving water. If I’m getting to the point where I have to be very firm and direct then a card like this would just escalate things imo. I also think bartending is very much about relationships and as in any other relationship I want to give tough news directly so they can see from my tone and body language that I care about them and I’m not being dismissive.

The card to me is the equivalent of breaking up via text message. It’s the cowards way out and won’t make things any easier.

  18. Resident_Course_3342

Seems like a terrible idea to admit you overserved someone with written proof of liability. If an establishment is doing it so often they have pre printed cards a decent lawyer could take them to the cleaners should anything happen.

  19. shamqueen69

If you’re cut off, you probably shouldn’t be driving. Seems like asking for trouble.

  20. This must be the asshole cutoff card not the drunkass card

  21. Haytham__

I’m sure that when you give it to the one guy that needs this served he’ll trash the place lmao.

  22. GreenWoodDragon

Seriously, I’d destroy the place for writing “cutoff” instead of “cut off”.

  23. Been cut off twice in my life, once was after 8 craft beers, and I wasn’t driving. Other time was a short walk from my house and almost certainly a misunderstanding. It was after 5 blue moons and I was told I was “done” after exiting and coming back because of a phone call.

I was at a work meeting with my boss, only talking to him and no one else lol

Each time I took it with stride and just said alright

  24. man_teats

Absolutely not, as a bartender a rowdy drunk would 100% laugh at your weak ass and this would only serve to escalate the situation. On top of that, this is basically admitting in writing that you’ve been overserved, on fuckin company letterhead no less. Stupid in every way.

I’ll say what I said in the other sub, a bartender needs to have the cajones to tell someone to gwan git when they need to gwan git. It’s that simple.

Source: I’m a dive bar bartender

  25. Pretty_Economist_770

If I’m at a table with friends and get that card either everybody is leaving with me or I’m staying. But I can see that being useful at the bar top where most people show up solo.

  26. If you’re being cut off, you can’t/wont read this.

  27. OpeningDifficulty731

It’s a dream to create a bar that never stops serving drinks, but is impossible to get shitfaced in. Like it would be a yearly anomaly to have to be carried out cause the environment is too fire and the bar snacks plentiful

  28. Natural-Minute3941

I imagine this would just anger said drunk customers.

  29. zero_dr00l

If you’re drunk enough to be cut off, I’m not sure reading (much less comprehending) will be your strong suit…

  30. Uncontrollablebeagle

If I’m drunk enough to get one of these I’m not going to be able to read it and I’d probably think the bartender wants to go into business with me so I’d put it in pocket to save it and be less likely to leave so I didn’t hurt their feelings.

  31. Affectionate_Big_463

Awesome idea, I wish this was a thing at my restaurant sometimes! 😂 If you’re going to do it, consider putting a space between “cut” and “off”, and maybe add a smiley face somewhere – it might trick them into being less mad about being cut off, that way you can avoid them becoming a bigger problem lol

  32. normanbeets

    Incriminating yourself for over-serving, nice.

  33. freebread

While I see the right intention is there, this is something that could easily become a problem on both sides of the bar.

Not only does this create a situation where someone is intoxicated and decides to make a scene, there’s also the chance that there’s the one server/bartender who will take advantage of this if they are annoyed or having a bad day. In a perfect situation this could quietly be passed along from a responsible server aware of their surroundings to someone who would see it, get the hint, pack up and leave. Don’t get me wrong, the ratio of patrons to FOH that would take this card the wrong way are probably 31:1. But occasionally you might work with someone who tries to play the uno reverse card when they’ve never played uno their entire life.

  34. FluffyBunnyFlipFlops

Should it contain something about continuing to serve the patron soft drinks?

  35. PossibleJazzlike2804

I’m just imagine the guys trying to read this at my old place. Mid 30s, needs glasses, drunken attitude. It would make for an eventful night.

  36. Intellectual_Drift

So I can leave without breaking down? Fuckn sweet!
Lmao, prep is gonna be pissed.

  37. dangerrnoodle

If I’m drunk enough to get cut off, I can’t read that little card.

  38. fpaulmusic

There is no way that these cards are effective. At all.

  39. Studio_DSL

If I needed to be handed one, there’s no way I could even read it at that point
