And if you cut the bread last,it cleans the knife for you.

Pure FWSY bread like sourdough, sure.

Any enriched bread that contains some kind of fat I would wash the knife with soap.

This is a lie! You have to wipe the crumbs off on your sleeve first.

My wife does this. No wipe down of the blade, nothing. Slice and back into the sheath it goes. I may be a lone wolf on this; but I always put it in the sink when I’m done to clean it later.

  6. FangedFreak

YES! Finally my people. Quick wipe and back in it goes ready for the next slice… in 5 minutes

It doesn’t go back in the drawer!! But it DOES get tucked into the breadbox with the loaf for convenient cutting later…

Don’t be an animal, give it a rinse and a wipe.

Boy! I told you to lick those crumbs off that knife before you put it back in the butter!

my rule of thumb: no oil = a simple rinse is fine

We just leave ours on the cutting board because there will be more bread in a minute.

Only a criminal keeps knives in a drawer!

But the bread knife can go back in/on the rack.

If it’s not cutting meat or some kind of aromatic that will leave a flavor it’s getting a quick rinse and/or wipe and see ya later

100 percent true but sometimes I give it a guilty little wipe on my jeans first…. Surely that’s hygienic

  15. As long as you have no celiacs in your life.

  16. Timmerdogg

Y’all are gross or I have a gummy crumb

  17. ChineseNoodleBoy

Serious question. What if it’s cheese bread or something like an olive loaf?

If it’s cake, the knife has now been chosen to live in the cake plate w/ cake until it’s gone
