I couldn’t Chef and Dad at the same time, had to step off the line. Best of luck and great job making it happen. I know it’s a ton of work and sacrifice to balance it, and the fact that you’re getting things like this tells me you’re doing *at least* an alright job.

When my son (16yo at the time) took the metro to my kitchen mid service where I was banging out a fully booked Valentine’s Day prix fix menu under a completely re-arranged kitchen to deliver to me a little baggie of candies and a hand written note, I cried. He knew I was busy, so he just gave it to a server to bring to me and then waved from the doorway and left. With all the stress and buffoonery I’ve ever had to deal with in the kitchen, that’s what broke me and made me cry during service. A little baggie of candy and a note from the love of my life. He literally only took the bus to come give me a gift. It’s been hard as hell, but he is the best goddamn thing that ever existed in my life and worth every single second.
