One of my grandmother’s favorite stories to tell about my mom growing up involves her sneaking into the kitchen at night and eating margarine right out of the tub with her fingers. My grandmother always ends the story with, “And I told her that I don’t mind if she needs a nighttime snack, but if she’s going to eat butter out of the tub, could she at least get a spoon?”
