I had this beautiful aged reisling for lunch at La Tour d’Argent in Paris last Saturday.

The color was golden yellow, showing its age. The nose was incredible – petrol, honey, and preserved lemon. On the palate, it was bone-dry but still rich. The acidity was very present and fresh. This was my first time trying a reisling this old, but I thought it was a really exciting wine. No trace of sweetness though, and not much fruit. Really enjoyed it though.

We also had a half bottle of 2007 [Clusel-Roch Cote Rotie](https://imgur.com/a/e1OFre8). Powerful syrah. This wine was heavy on the tertiary flavors – black olive, smoked meat, and leather. Silky texture. The fruit was still there – black cherry and plum, but it leaned more into its savory side, with some pepper, and the leather really standing out. It went very well with their duck.

Last was a 1997 Château Suduiraut Grand Cru Sauternes by the glass.  Amber-gold hue. The nose was full of honey, dried apricot, orange marmalade. On the palate, it was lush. Despite the richness, it wasn’t cloying – the acidity kept it balanced.

  2. Fantastic notes! Especially love the Riesling ones.

I’ve got a 2015 Clusel Roch Cote Rotie, think it may be time to pop it at 10 years these next few months, if that 2007 already has fading fruit and is very tertiary.
