**TL;DR: Go now before this spot pops off on social media. If you like a meatier tasting burger like me and don’t want to break the bank, you’ll like this place.**
Apologies in advance for my poor photography skills. I promise the food tastes better than it may look in my photo. Other people online were able to take better photos than me lol.
Another week, another burger spot pops up in NYC. Burgers are one of my favorite foods, so I’m always on the lookout to try new spots. This time, the new burger spot just happens to be in my neighborhood, so I had to check it out.
As the name implies, St. Mark’s Burgers and Dogs is on Saint Mark’s Place. Between 2^(nd) and 3^(rd) Ave to be exact. I was able to speak a bit with the owner to learn more about him and the restaurant. He opened the store just 3 weeks ago. Before that, he worked as a general manager at one of the Thompkins Square Bagel stores. This burger and hot dog restaurant is, in his own words, “a passion project.” He did the entire interior design and came up with the menu himself. He grinds the burger meat himself in the store, and it’s a mix of 3 choice cuts of meat. I tried to take a guess at which ones he used, but he just smiled and said “Nice try.”
The menu itself is pretty small, which is usually a good sign for me when it comes to a burger joint. There are burgers, hot dogs, fries, and chili on the menu. For this outing, I just wanted a double cheeseburger and fries. I don’t know about other people, but I’ve sort of grown tired of the recent trend of extra greasy smash burgers like 7^(th) Street or Gotham Burger Social Club. Don’t get me wrong, they’re good, but sometimes it just feels like I’m drinking oil instead of eating a burger. This place doesn’t smash down their burger patties to a thin slice of meat, which I personally liked.
After waiting a few minutes, I got my order. It was a little messier than the usual photos online, but I personally don’t mind too much. The fries were pretty well seasoned with a good texture. I asked for the special burger sauce on the side to dip the fries in. The sauce itself was a bit more mustardy than I usually expect from a burger place’s special sauce, but I still really liked it. The consistency is a bit runnier than you may expect, but it complemented the burger and fries well. As for the burger itself, as I alluded to earlier, I felt like the flavor profile was more balanced than similarly priced smash burger joints. You could actually taste the meat itself pretty well, and the onions and pickles that came with the burger added a nice crunch and acidity to the taste profile. Best of all, I didn’t feel gross after eating the burger like I normally do after something like 7^(th) Street, and I left decently full.
Overall, I am pretty satisfied with my experience, especially considering the price for the area. I definitely want to try the hot dogs and chili at some point. I feel like this place could potentially blow up on social media soon, seeing as how it’s in a trendy area of a trendy neighborhood, so could be worth trying it now before it gets too crowded.

Better than Paul’s? Same neighborhood.

Pictures look meh but your review sounds good! Will check it out. Thanks!

It wasn’t extra greasy? That bun looks like it’s screaming extra greasy.

Looks great for the price and that’s what I’m all about.
7th street is amazing but ruined the brand with their crazy expansion.
Overall, I will not be going here – I know what the food will taste like. It’s a soft warm cheese burger.
coldjesusbeer
is that.. is that housemade honey mustard on your tray
oh god I am such a trollop for house honey mustard

Is it all beef?

Looks exactly like Five Guys. Will try it out this weekend since it’s in the neighborhood.
chipotleeeeeeee
I live right next to this place and after reading this I went there and got a burger 10 minutes before they closed, the owner is super nice. The burger was pretty small but for the price it’s a decent deal, you can tell he makes them with love.
ChornWork2
fries look terrible.
2u3ee
how are the fries?
DinerEnBlanc
I’ll check it out, but that burger is a fucking mess.

That burger looks like it’s seen some shit but I can forgive for the price and glowing review.
Why so messy? Why so wet? I want my bun to be dry on the top for proper holding please.
Also fries, wheres the color? Why so boring looking?
WredditSmark
Looks terrible all around, despite the review (which from everything I’ve seen looks to be mid but the owner is nice so OP is being generous)
It’s places like this that reinforce my opinion that shake shack is elite. You won’t ever get such a sad looking burger there, it literally looks like a burger you’d get from a breakfast cart

I miss Mark. Their Guinness shakes and jalapeno ketchup were amazing.

Thought this was a revival of the st mark’s sliders place — will have to try this joint!

7th Street Burger is just a block away. That’s a good ass burger, I don’t care how many transplants like it or how they’ve franchised now. Went to Burger America, that shit was mad ight.
No, but I will try this spot. I dealt with Paul’s for over 20 years of adding no seasoning period to their burger at all but still liking how much meat they add.

Adding it to my “must visit” spots!
Looks good I must visit soon.
