The Weyburn Salvation Army saw another successful Christmas Campaign in 2024.
“Our goal was $130,000 and we brought in over $150,000. That includes our mailers and kettles. Kettles brought in just under $15,000 and the rest was mailers,” reported Community Ministries Worker, Nicole Strickland.
She said the majority of the larger cheques they receive each year are from those who regularly send in their donations via the Christmas mailers, noting that this does result in a tax receipt. In fact, receipts are also mailed out to those who put a cheque into a kettle.
“Every cent of it will be spent here in the building with the Food Bank and the different programs that we run,” noted Strickland.
With only seven appointment slots in a given day, she said they’re so busy currently that they are facilitating hampers for 10 households.
“I think it’s Christmas bills. And the cold, it doesn’t help either.”
She said they are always happy to get donations.
“Right now, it’s just monetary donations. That way, we can spend it on the Food Bank or any programming that we are currently doing.”
She added a big thanks to the Weyburn area for helping them exceed their goals.
