Many people would expect some rolls or nigiri, but this is also some type of sushi!

A deconstructed roll! Looks great. I’m not Japanese though so don’t know if I understand.

Awesome! I thought avocado wasn’t used in Japanese suahi

  3. is it a local thing or way to do it? i mean, if she’s your mom she’s not trying to make a fancy presentable roll in restaurants but to feed the fam. i’m assuming it’s a way to do it for family and there’s a telling intimacy in doing it. looks great btw!

  4. Chirashi zushi.

Same ingredients as Sushi, but with a different sensory experience.

In Chirashi zushi you notice the presence of rice more, while in Sushi roll the first thing you feel is the flavor and texture of the seaweed.

  5. It’s chirashi, I’m just a silly American and I understand.

Sure Chirashi-zushi. Your mother is courageous. I was never served any form of homemade sushi by my in-laws or by anyone hosting us. It was Always store bought. There is this notion that only sushi chef can make sushi, so most Japanese don’t even try to make it. I personally think it is a little overhyped how only a sushi chef can make sushi. I mean it is a piece of fish on top of seasoned rice for fucks sake! Neapolitan pizza is toping on top of a dough, yet many try and succeed at making a good home made pizza. I would argue making a pizza dough is more work than rinsing rice 3 times, soaking it 30 min before starting the rice cooker then spraying すし酢on it before cooling it with a hand held fan.
But sushi is exotic, pizza is cheap( thank you Domino) .

  7. is it a tiny bowl or a massive spoon? looks tasty 😋
