New house, found this stored in the basement. Worth drinking, or probably gone bad?

Maybe, only one way to find out 🙂

    And please keep us updated!

  2. Short answer – only one way to find out.
Long answer – numerous unknown factors, from temperature fluctuations, humidity, etc. Basement suggests it should be ok, but no way to know for sure other than to drink it.

An amarone can last a really long time, and that’s by a solid producer…but only one way to find out

Make sure it’s not tampered with, could be a gross prank.

  5. Bertani is one of the best producers of Amarone. 1999 wasn’t an amazing year for Amarone and it doesn’t look like it was stored properly, but definitely worth giving it a try 😊

Fill level looks good, 1999 bottled in 2006 by producer website so it probably spent 17-18 years top in that basement, it is 100% safe to drink and recent vintages from this producer sell for more than 100$ so it could be really good juice in there.

What kind of basement are we talking? Earth floor, built into earth, no heating, moisture, natural light?

Oh and don’t worry, wine doesn’t turn bad as in poisonous, it would just taste bad.

We don’t know what your basement temperature is like. But there’s a good chance this bottle’s going to be just fine. It’s definitely safe to drink.

That’s one of my top two favourite wines (the other being Barolo) – I’d certainly be giving it a try! If it’s been stored well you might just have an other worldly experience!

Nah I wouldn’t touch it, send it to me and I’ll dispose of it for you 👍🏻
