my breakfast for the past several months has been 1/2 cup kodiak pancake mix with sf syrup and fruit. Today instead of measuring it with a cup, i used my scale and learned that half a cup is way more than 53 grams?? im so confused?? which one is it??

The grams measurement will always be more accurate. I’ve never used a cup to measure that mix.
And this is why you always weigh your food, rather than measure volumetrically. It’s why when baking, you should weigh dry goods. It’s always more accurate.
You could tightly pack a 1/2 cup with this stuff or loosely scoop it – the weights would be totally different.
I’d assume they had a loosely packed 1/2 cup in mind. It’s always better to weigh as it will be more accurate every time but if you’re using the cups, stir up the mix and then use a spoon to gently scoop mix into your measuring cup to keep it loose.
If you’re using your measuring cup to scoop that can pack in the mix too densely
To expand on this, the volume of flour and stuff can change depending on altitude, humidity, age, etc. So the weight measurement will always be more accurate instead of the volume
Never rely on cups. Even cans dont have as much as they say they have on the nutrition facts
Yeah any baker will tell you to weigh your dry ingredients for this reason. 1 cup of flour can be way different weight wise
I had this yesterday , mashed a banana Into it . It was so good . I also used a cup measure will see how it compares to grams for me . Now I am curious
The grams r more accurate. Always use a scale!
To measure dry goods, you are supposed to gently add the material to your cup and then level as needed. Scooping in causes compaction and you’ll get more. Anyone who does any serious baking knows to weigh dry products, never scoop.
IMHO here, if you’ve got a breakfast you enjoy and you’re content with your progress, just continue as before and accept the extra bit of calories. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Volume vs weight wins again lol
I weigh anything that gives a serving size in weight. Only time I use cups is for liquids and chocolate chips in cookies – cuz there’s no limit to chocolate in homemade cookies hahah
Pro tip, the bobs red mill protein pancake mix from Whole Foods has more protein per calories and tastes the exact same as Kodiak
Dude there was a recall on these a while ago
Happens with flour too. It’s due to how much air you scooped up/how packed the mix was. That’s why weighing is most accurate
