They don’t need light until they sprout
If you don’t have a heating mat try to find a heated surface to put the tray on, around 78 – 80 degrees
Maybe planted them too deep?
If that’s snow outside and they’re by a window, it’s too cold for them to sprout.
Peppers are super slow to sprout if you don’t have a heat mat. I grew some from seed last year and found out they really really don’t like the cold. They took weeks to germinate and remained tiny until the summer heat kicked in, at which point they suddenly started growing like they should. I didn’t really get a harvest from them, but I am overwintering some of them to get a head start this year.
If I do grow more from seed I’m definitely getting a heat mat, I’ve even seen that people use a heat mat inside a greenhouse, they need like 25ºC to be germinate and be happy as seedlings. Once they’re bigger they’re much more resistant, I’ve had plants survive a couple of light frosts before!
Soil probably isn’t warm enough and soil isn’t staying moist enough. If you don’t want to buy a bunch of stuff; moisten the soil, throw some plastic wrap over the top, and put them on top of the fridge or someplace else that’ll get the soil warm. Also, ditch the grow lights until you have some sprouts, bare soil isn’t photosynthesizing anything.
Get a Plasticcontainer where those “pots” fit in, cover it with foil so that you have a mini greenhouse. Peppers need it warm, but not too warm. I think about 25c. Also that soil looks really dry. Give it moisture.
Those carton things are not good. Easy molding. Use plastic cups, those are reusable every year. You can also try taking a zip lock bag with paper towel inside and put your seeds onto that. Using a coffefilter on the paper towel helps that the roots not stick to the towel. Then you can also see what seeds are good and which not. Then you can put the good one in the soil.
Keep in mind most peppers can take a long time to sprout, some more than 20 days.
Depending on the temperature – or the lack there of, they can take anywhere north of 2 months to sprout. If you wanna go the cheap Wim Hof way, get a plastic propagator, shove these inside, water them, and stuff it under a central heating till they do something. It was my modus operandi for past years. And it somehow worked.
Two things seeds need to sprout, heat and humidity. You should look into a seed starting kit and way to getting up up temp.
As those are now there’s no way they’ll sprout. Way too dry and probably cold
The material that carton is made out of makes it prone to drying out. I would get a plastic seed starting tray and a clear lid from the garden center.
Pick your flavor of the week for soil temp range, but you pretty much have to have some source of heat for the soil.
Most folks will advise something between 77-85… and they can still be way slow to pop up. I’ve had some crosses take nearly a month.
Keep em hot and moist 🥴
Put them on top of your fridge, or at least in a warmer part of your house. Cover with plastic wrap to trap moisture. Keep the soil wet and warm.
Looks dry AF
I’ve never been able to germinate anything in those paper trays. I just couldn’t keep them moist enough.
Unless you’re going for massive production, one or two habanero plants are going to give you plenty of peppers for an entire household. They are super hot and a little goes a long way.
I’d use a plastic container. If that’s peat moss, it looks bone dry and it’s hard to re-wet as it gets so hydrophobic. If you have an old small yogurt container or other small plastic container (even the small 4 and 6 cell trays work great) just sow 2 seeds in each and keep them warm. Here in Florida my house stays in the mid 70s and that’s plenty warm for them to germinate. You can even wet them down and wrap it in plastic wrap to keep the moisture in. You can even get trays with humidity domes.
I’d say your biggest problem is the lack of moisture caused by those paper pods. Go with plastic and keep it much more moist.
You kidding me. They only have 1 loss and beat that team a few days later. They sprouted alright.
Never use those biodegradable starter cups indoors. And, they don’t need light until it has gone above the surface
I’ve had habs hold off MONTHS. Started seeds last year in an aero garden (rip), and just left the pod in there as a spacer when other plants took off. Was just about to pull everything out after transplanting and clean the machine…and there they were. Brand new hab seedlings.
Habs are fussy.
I have habs that have been on a heating mat and perfect temperature and water for the last 33 days one just now sprouted. Apparently they take their sweet ass time.
I’ve had pepper seeds in the past not sprout for a whole month and a half. Just be patient.
The government is spraying the skies so that there’s no sun. When they sprout they’ll die. Just like us.
Soil looks dry
