Walking through The Grove today and noticed the place that opened as Toastique about six months ago is now called Veranda Cafe & Mercantile. Similar concept, evidently the owners got out of their franchise agreement and went independent. That’s was quick!

Main thing that caught my eye is they get their bagels from a bakery in Brooklyn so I got an Everything toasted to go. Hit it with chicken salad and Cholula at home. Good stuff. Bagel had good crust & chew. Glad I tried it but I don’t think I’d go too far out of my way for it. I think it’s mostly a convenience for people who live and do business nearby. They close at 3pm. Will probably try their salmon toast or açaí bowl next time.

I have a hard time believing these aren’t just supermarket bagels – or rebranded frozen H&H.

  2. Damn, Toastique went away quick. I actually thought it was decent if overpriced.

  3. Id like to know the source on their bagels. They can certainly get them fresh given gold belly exists, but that’s not an everything bagel I recognize from Brooklyn.

But it looks more like a ny bagel than an Austin one.

Hi all. First, thank you for stopping into our cafe! We really appreciate your business.❤️We moved here from NJ about 1 1/2 years go. One thing we really missed were great bagels. Without getting into the details, we knew the community would be better served with us as an independent and as such, we started to rebrand mid December. For anyone who has been into the cafe since, you will see a whole new menu and the addition of retails goods from lines we personally love.

We are doing our best to bring things we love and that customers have asked for to the cafe. In addition to our bagels (which are flown in from homemade bagel business in Brooklyn), we have launched our first breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs on a brioche bun. We are now able to use a local bakery and support another local business for our bread and baked goods as well.

If anyone has questions about what we sell, where it comes from, etc, please stop in and meet Rick or I and ask. We are happy to share. We hope that what we are creating makes people smile and that the cafe is a place where everyone feels welcome and can relax! 🥰 Carrie
