I’ve been wanting to try a Tokaji aszu for a few years now and finally decided to do it, right now these are the 2 bottles I’ve found near me that are available and in my price range. Which would you choose? The Hétszölö Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2010 or the Gróf Degenfeld Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2016

Without knowing the specific bottles, I’d just go for the oldest.

Enjoy! Very envious. They can certainly be magnificent wines.

The gap in bottle age will make them extremely different wines. Look for Royal Tokaji if you can find it.

  3. While I agree that something with more age on it could be interesting the 2016 Grof has gotten some very good reviews. Might be fun to try both side by side if that’s an option but to just choose one, I might go with the Grof even tho slightly younger

  4. As a general rule always the older one, vinification is mostly the same across all of the producers and with the exception of older vines there’s little terroir difference. Unless you’re splurging for a big name with age just pick the oldest.
