**Pic 1: Super Taste**, boiled chicken dumplings, 10 for $6.50
    – really solid, pretty thick skin but filling was tasty and these were clearly fresh
    – liked the takeout packaging
    – busy, no seating
    – wish they let me order in smaller quantities but very solid esp for chicken

**Pic 2: Tasty Dumpling,** pan-fried cabbage and pork dumplings, 4 for $2
    – absolutely NOT tasty oh my god. whoever raved about these must have no taste buds cuz these were RANCID
    – super doughy, weird tasteless yet greasy filling and SO SO oily and old? like look at it. it was drenched in oil that tasted like, very old. these were clearly sitting out in a vat of recycled soybean oil for a while
    – 0/10, idk why I even finished these, i should’ve thrown them out but it was my first stop so i wanted to do it for thoroughness
    – also fairly expensive relative to north dumpling?? idk why anyone would go here

**Pic 3: Shu Jiao Fu Zhou,** chicken and mushroom dumplings, 6 for $3.50
    – really solid, liked these better than super taste ngl. thinner skin, more seasoning
    – very well-organized and spacious, actually found seating
    – also had the beef tripe soup here which tasted slightly gamey but hey it’s tripe

**Pic 4: North Dumpling,** pan-fried pork dumplings, 10 for $4
    – bang for your buck for sure
    – this is what i wanted tasty dumpling to be; perfectly pan-fried
    – superrrr juicy, didn’t even need sauce bc the meat was seasoned really well and was actually dripping out of the dumplings
    – found seating here, but i was also slightly off peak hours since it was my last stop
    – greasy but good flavor, and mind you this was after i already ate a ton of dumplings so you know it was hitting
    – not a ton of options, but they do what they do well
    – heard bad things about the pancakes so didn’t get it, but ymmv maybe

overall i would go back to Shu Jiao Fu Zhou to try their other stuff, but if you’ve never been to North Dumpling i would go there fs!

*SORRY if you saw the first post while I was still typing, I thought I’d type it out faster lol*

credentials: i walked for a total of 1.5 hours in subzero weather in a skirt to try all these. i also ate all 30 dumplings within 30 min, alone (bc my friends said it was too cold to go)

Super taste went to $6.50?? wtf it was like $4 for 10 a few months ago.

    King Dumpling is good.

I couldn’t do boiled dumplings tho.

Come to flushing. Just discovered a new business on Main Street selling shen jian bao at $1/piece

  6. I did a dumpling tour before in Chinatown but I find it hard to compare places.

The “best” pan fried dumpling ends up being a luck of the draw because it’s mostly based on freshness. Like if you go during off hours, you’re most likely going to get some dumplings that’s been sitting around for a while. But if you manage to get there when it’s busy, you’re guaranteed relatively fresh dumplings.

I kinda like your review reflects that. The places you liked were all pretty busy. I feel like a better comparison with be to only hit up the dumplings spots that are busy when you get there lol.

I also feel like that’s why Shu Jiao Fu Zhou is “good” because they mostly make boiled dumplings and it’s more consistent and doesn’t go bad as fast as pan fried dumplings.

I literally had tasty dumpling yesterday early afternoon. Pork and chive and shrimp and veg.. both were delicious.. and I’m a dumpling snob

  8. It would’ve been a better comparison to review only pork dumplings since that’s standard.

Shu Jiao Fuzhou makes my favorite thin skin pork chive dumplings. I like that they’re heavy handed with the Chinese chives and use the thin Twin Marquis brand wrappers.

I do wish they’d clean and wipe things down once in a while. Surprised you found seating. Guess the freezing weather helped. I’ve been going since they were on Broome and it’s crazy just how busy it is these days. It’s one of the places these food influencers really blew up.

I had North Dumpling a long time ago and thought it was mediocre but was recently pleasantly surprised at their new location on Division St. Much more spacious with actual spread out seating vs the old hole in the wall on Essex. It was freshly pan fried and the filling was nicely seasoned with fresh ginger. The woman owner that’s been there forever is always smiling and nice. Not sure if she’s still associated with the old location on Essex.

King Dumpling is pretty good too.
