Luckily, I managed to secure a reservation just two days before the announcement of their 3 Stars back in November; I can imagine it’s now even harder to get a booking after this.
Courses: There were 20+ dishes, each highlighting unique flavors and elements while drawing inspiration from traditional southern Thai cuisine.
Every dish had a great balance of taste and textures, with spices that brought out the freshness of the raw ingredients without overpowering them. The progression of the courses was impressive, with a well-thought-out mix of hot and cold, spicy and sweet flavors. This was one of the most remarkable aspects of the meal; how they balanced the spiciness throughout the courses. After a particularly spicy dish, a “palate-cleansing” dish would follow, neutralizing the heat and creating a harmonious flow. This thoughtful approach enhanced the overall experience, making it enjoyable even for those less accustomed to spicy food. In addition, this careful balance allowed the true flavors and freshness of the ingredients come through, without the spiciness overwhelming the palate and clouding the taste of the dishes.
Be warned, the volume of courses is quite enormous, and by the time dessert arrives, you’ll find yourself completely stuffed!!!
All dishes, along with their ingredients, were explained in simple and clear English.
Cost to Performance: Sorn is definitely on the pricier side, especially when considering the cost of living in Thailand. However, compared to fine dining experiences worldwide, it offers excellent value given its 3-star Michelin rating and the generous amount of food served. Therefore, the CP value is exceptional.
Personal Rating: 9/10. Sorn is truly one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Bangkok.
If you’re looking for a fine-dining restaurant that perfectly balances spice, flavor, and textures, with a thoughtful progression of courses that highlight the freshness of ingredients—especially for those who love spicy food and are seeking southern Thai flavors—Sorn is an absolute must-visit.
