The nose is bursting with Zinfandel character, but the oak and alcohol may just be too much for my taste. I've seen so much love Ridge Geyserville on here so I'm looking to see if anyone has felt similarly.

Decanting for 2 hours so far. I will continue to drink over the next couple of hours and see how it evolves. I also have the other half bottle for tomorrow. I will report back here if my opinion changes.

I'm wondering if I'd prefer it with some age.

It’s also possible I’m getting sick because I have two small children and am thus always getting sick, but my senses do not appear to be impeded.

Have you tried any food with it? Sometimes a little flavorful food can help. Cheese, olives, crackers…

I’ve always been a fan of Geyserville, but the last two vintages (2021, and 2022) I have preferred Lytton Springs. I agree that recently the Geyservilles have been a little hot.

I suggest picking up a bottle of 2022 Lytton Springs. A killer QPR wine that is just as good or better day two!

Did you know the producer well and didn’t like this bottle particularly? Or just first time with their wine?

I may be downvoted to say this, but Ridge wines I’ve tried were all well made, but they never “do it” for me. It’s just more of my personal preference. My opinion might change if I try an aged Monte Bello though.

That said, I think their Zin is approachable young and not the type of wine that absolutely needs time to be appreciated. I think they do improve over time though.

In my experience, Ridge wines are built to celler longer than other CA wines. This bottle can go ten plus years. I think you opened it a little early. If you have more, I’d let it sit another three years or more.

I haven’t had that wine, but it’s too soon to be drinking most zins and way too soon for Ridge zin imo. Sorry it’s not working for.

The Geyserville can be pretty boring, it’s solid for the price though. I can’t say I’m surprised bc ridge is a liiittle overhyped on this sub. But their higher end bottling are definitely more noteworthy

I’ve tried many vintages of Geyserville both on release and well-aged. It’s not really starting to get good until it has 10-15 years on it, and after that it often becomes sublime.
