So excited right now, people. I’ve been making these cookies for friends, family, and coworkers for a few years. They’ve always been good, but I felt there was still room for improvement. Didn’t like how much they’d usually spread, I want ‘em thicker. Tried all the usual tricks. Wellllll…. This is it. I browned butter for the first time and hot damn, these are just incredible. Subtle difference in flavor, but the texture and thickness is exactly what I’ve been after.

And yes, first attempt at browning went poorly. Round 2 was just right 👌🏻

Ooooo very nice! I’m too scared to try browned butter. This is motivating!

Claire saffitz has a nice recipe for these, I like to add malted Ovaltine and raw pumpkin seeds. 👀

So my issue is, I ate all the choc chips before I got around to baking motivation in the last week. 😢 Saved for next time…

Those look great. And thank you for not holding the two halves of the cookies in your fingers as is the weird custom in social media posts.

do you have to wait for the butter to cool before you cream the sugar with it?

The last time I browned butter, I was afraid of burning it. I think I could have cooked it a little longer. Just curious, what kind of butter did you use?

It’s not that hard and looks so pretty

Next time, try it in Rice Krispie treats, with a little sprinkle of salt on top and tell me it’s not addictive. I don’t even normally like rice krispie treats – but maybe use unsalted butter for those.

i burn the butter every time i try this and it gives cookies a bitter taste… any tips?

  15. Do you find that the chocolate chips overpower the browned butter flavor in cookies? I made an icing with browned butter and it was soo good, very strong taste but for some reason it wasn’t the same in cookies. I definitely cooked it long enough without burning but I honestly don’t feel it’s worth all that effort for such minimal results. Is there something im doing wrong?
