SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — An organization in South Bend debuted their newly remodeled kitchen.

The Upper Room Recovery Community at First United Methodist Church in South Bend held an open house on Wednesday showcasing their newly remodeled kitchen for its residents.

$55,000 or around half of the funds for the kitchen remodel came from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County. The rest of the kitchen was completed with the help of donations.

Jason Pensky, the Executive Director of the Upper Room Recover Community, said eating healthy food is much easier when you’re cooking it yourself.

“One of the most important things in turning your life around after substance use is taking care of yourself,” said Pensky.

Upper Room Recovery Community is home to 32 residents, all which purchase their own food and have access to the kitchen to cook in.
