Onions and cilantro. But i agree with your child, we are in the minority

Scallions and parsley go on top of everything in our house, sounds normal to me.

  3. I do, *in the garden*.

When you use yours, save the root end and plant it. It’ll grow back into a full green onion plant. When you cut them, leave the root end in the soil. Infinite onion hack.

I think I’m more concerned about the two tubes of ground beef

You…store these in water? I feel so stupid now, *of course* you store these in water.

I will now have green onions on hand more often.

I do the same thing theyre in a glass right next to my sink 😭😭

  7. DaisyDuckens

They’re in a glass jar. Takes up less room.

  8. Creative-Display-3

I put mine in a cup by the window or garden when it’s not snowing outside.

  9. Yes, but they do just fine in a cup in the windowsill! The bowl looks a bit space inefficient.

You can even replant in soil. πŸ™‚ usually I let them grow in water for a few cuts before I plant. They start to lose flavor after too many cuts in water.

If you salt the water they will last even longer (if submerged). Don’t listen to your child that’s why you are the adult lol.

Put them in a pot of dirt once the roots are long enough. They’re super easy to grow inside, and do amazingly well outside during the warm season.

Professional knowledge, not normal, so your child is right πŸ™‚

  13. LurkerBerker

i usually use a smaller bowl with a taller lip and arrange it so only the roots touch the water

  14. U cant have instant ramen without green onion. So u always have to have a bit in stock for an emergency

  15. J5Screwed4Life

Keep them in a tall glass with a little water in it.

Bag in the fridge, glass jar to regrow on the windowsill, and then when the jar onions have enough root growth and i havent forgotten them to the point of them getting questionably squishy, I bring them outside and stick them in the dirt.

  17. GooseGosselin

I thought “normal” was keeping them in a glass of water in the fridge, a bowl seems a bit bulky.

  18. MemoryHouse1994

Yes! Change out the water every day, and I rinse off the roots, also. Just a tiny bit above the root. If I don’t use them soon, I’ll add a couple of drops of kelp/seaweed liquid fertilizer. Through the spring thru fall I have a long narrow, shallow pot filled w/soil which is simpler.

tip: the green onions with longer roots will keep growing back for a few weeks in water before they’re completely done. i keep mine on my counter (because i’m not honestly sure if they’ll regrow as well in the fridge) and even let them have a little sunshine sometimes. unfortunately i think a lot of stores over trim the roots to prevent people from doing this though.

    Emergencies?

    No.

I keep onions ready for snacks and salads and just general eating whenever I feel like it really. I’m not waiting for an emergency to enjoy them.
