But this particular recipe’s AI cookie pictures were itching my brain because they honestly looked good and nothing seemed particularly wrong with the recipe. I did do some alterations due to stuff I had on hand. I used bread flour instead of all-purpose flour, and I did 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup granulated sugar instead of one full cup of granulated sugar.
In the AI pics, there were blueberries in the cookie dough but nothing in the recipe mentioned adding them in, so I just threw them into the dough. I was tweaking over work all day, so I completely forgot to get food dye and corn syrup for the icing since the recipe didn’t call for either ingredient. So, I dyed the icing with the sprinkles but it was too runny without the corn syrup.
I definitely baked them for longer than I should’ve because they came out drier than I wanted, but they didn’t really seem baked at all at the 15 minute mark. I’ll definitely bake them for less time when I make these again, as well as add in corn syrup to the icing to make it thicker.
I only had two lemons so I didn’t get enough lemon zest for a lemony flavor for the dough. But honestly I don’t think I’ll add lemon zest next time because the vanilla dough was good as is. I don’t want it to become too lemony. I squeezed three lemon slices for the icing and it came out perfect.
This was definitely a fun exercise 😛
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I used “rich & creamy cultured butter with sea salt” and it had 82% butterfat. So although the recipe called for unsalted butter, I still used salted butter.

Bread flour could contribute to the dryness. The higher gluten makes them more dense
Cute! And great idea. I know it seems like most people see something AI (or simply photoshopped) and declare it fake and move on. But I catch myself, a lot, thinking “OK…but COULD it be real? in the right circumstances?”

Honestly I gotta give these a shot. Love a blueberry and lemon combo.

I’m confused about the “adding corn syrup to make it thicker” bit. Most royal icings i’ve made are just sugar and water or milk (and maybe an extract or dye as well). I’ve used corn syrup as an invert sugar to get a better gloss on my icing for petit fours but never as a thickener. Could you not just have added more sugar to thicken?

I love the idea of taking all this super misleading AI slop I keep seeing around hobbies and making it something that can actually be useful to people.
I’m active in a lot of embroidery/knitting/crocheting circles and it’s been so sad to see people find patterns they think look really cool, try to make them, and end up with a disaster because it was some AI pattern that made no sense. It’s especially sad when the person is clearly new to the craft and is so discouraged when their stitching doesn’t look as bright, or 3D as the pattern. Because of course it doesn’t the pattern isn’t real but how could they know that?
To have a real example of what a realistic outcome looks like or have someone experienced enough to turn some AI nonsense into a useable pattern or in this case recipe, could really help people who are so discouraged in these circles. It’s really been hard to watch the influx of AI slop take such a morale tole on crafting/creating type communities.

I’m gonna start a new hobby of recreating AI pictures of baked goods and food. I found this [recipe](https://recipesbyclare.com/recipes/blueberry-lemon-frost-cookies) on Pinterest, and it seems like this person’s blog is all AI pictures?
But this particular recipe’s AI cookie pictures were itching my brain because they honestly looked good and nothing seemed particularly wrong with the recipe.
