Hello, I’ve got friends from Scotland visiting NYC this weekend and they’ve asked if there is any place in the city doing a Burns Supper special (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burns_supper)

Know of any good Scottish bars/restaurants? Appreciate any suggestions 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🤗

Most places are probably too professional to do this, but you might want to ask for flambé or well-done fajitas.

But seriously, they’re a week late for any of the real festivities- I would be wary of anything advertised, as they will most likely be ticketed rip offs like any Holi festival not in Queens.

There are, sadly, no purely Scottish restaurants in NYC anymore and this is not a very popular event in NYC. Sometimes pan-British restaurants will have a special event meal, often with a haggis cutting. Like another poster said, looks like Gage & Tollner is hosting one. The New York Caledonian club has one, but it’s sold out. There’s a Scottish dancing society (RSCDS) throwing a ceilidh, an event called Burns Distilled, and a few Scottish universities are hosting alumni-only events. These all came up with a quick Google search, so may be worth looking to see if any are up your friends’ alley.

Generally I would say NYC’s Scottish events are not particularly good for the price, my husband (born & raised in Scotland) has been disappointed by most of them. You may also want to consider hanging out at Iona (Scottish bar in Brooklyn) or Caledonia Bar (UES or UWS) if they’re really keen on *something* Scottish for the night. Otherwise they’re in NYC and they should just enjoy NYC 🙂

Thats like getting McDonalds while in Europe. Take them some where they can’t get at home.

There are a few expensive and fully booked, there are a few that call it Burns Supper but no whisky, no pipes, no poetry. (which is odd, a reading literally costs nothing)

  5. The University Club hosted one on January 17th in partnership with the American Scottish Foundation. It was full highland dress or black tie and cost $205. They do it every year.

Flying Fox Tavern in Ridgewood is hosting one, with a prefix meal, bagpipes and poetry readings!
