Started my sourdough journey about a month ago. For my fourth loaf, I focused on trying to improve my bulk ferment. I decided (at my boyfriend’s suggestion) to place the dough in the dishwasher after a cleaning cycle so that it would be happy in the warm dishwasher. This was working beautifully the first 3 or so hours, but as I got ready to do my final stretch and fold, I realized the dishwasher had somehow started and run for 20 minutes.
I naturally almost threw the whole thing out, but we decided to finish the process anyways just to see what would happen with my water boarded loaf. Devastated to report it’s my best one yet 😅
140g starter
375 g warm water
500g bread flour
10g salt
2 stretch and folds; 2 coil folds 30 min apart
3 hour rise
15 hour cold ferment
25 min at 480 covered with ice cube
25 min at 420 uncovered

I hate the fact this looks better than any bread I’ve ever attempted. From now on im chucking it into the dishwasher 😹
OMG LOL
I have so many questions, but my primary one is how wet did it get?
Normal ,or quick wash?
what happy little accident haha
OMG THATS CRAZY
Hey; now you know to keep it cracked in the future lol! I usually microwave a mug of water and keep it in a closed microwave w said mug for a nice warm and damp environment 😉
how does… how does this even work
So is this a new method we’re all gonna start using or….
“Devastated to report” made me CACKLE
I wouldn’t do that. Dishwasher soap is certainly not healthy. I understand that you aren’t running a cycle but there is residue in there.
Hysterical. I think you have launched something here.
Hahaha I like to just turn the bread proofing on in my oven and once it gets warm, turn it off and leave the door closed. If I left it on constantly it would be too hot so if it starts cooling off in there I just periodically turn it back on for a few minutes then off again. Probably not the most consistent heat but it shortens the proofing time when my house is cold
Did the oven warming thing too….. wife turned the oven on to pre hat a roast…. Oye, the carnage that ensued.
That’s one clean lookin loaf
Rinse aid? Asking for a friend.
I think we should all try this and report back!
Did your dishwasher just make a better loaf than my oven…
I mean penicillin was discovered by accident and neglect
Was the dough in a plastic bag or something?
lol did u directly cook it after your cold ferment or did it come to room temp
You have to do it every time now!
lmfsooaodoidaos I needed this laugh today and i’m so glad you went with it and it turned out great!!
I love that even my worst sourdough failures are still successful. I accidentally left my bulk ferment on the warm stove top while cooking dinner and once I took it out of the bowl to shape, I noticed the bottom of the bowl started to BAKE, so I cut the dough in half and threw it in the oven without a second proof. Still turned out delicious 😂
Beautiful work!
It’s giving “used the wrong method for a maths calculation but ends up with the right answer” type vibes
I am sad to report: you have very Hard Water. I know this because it’s “Hard” to figure out why it even survived and then baked into this!
I am very confused
