I can't tell if it's wax? It looks waxy. I had another cheese that had black instead of orange and I ate it, but I'm wondering if I should have cut the black part off?

Looks like the same orange you see on Port Salut cheese, which you can eat.

You did indeed eat wax with the black coating. Not sure about this though.

“I eat stickers all the time, dude”

I agree. Unless it’s a wax sealing cheeses naturally form a hard exterior due to dryness. It is edible but might not be palatable. Drop it it a sauce though or a stock it’s fine.

it doesn’t complement the cheese but it’s edible

Yes! Unless it’s the wax of babybels or Gouda or stuff like that, most are edible

  7. It won’t hurt you. If it doesn’t taste good or it is too difficult to chew, there’s your answer.

Mahón is so good, try it with a large amount of black pepper!!!

Can you eat it? Yes. Do you want to eat it? No.

You can eat the plastic wrapper too if you want. Nobody’s gonna stop you. Being an adult rocks like that.

I don’t know why the haters are in here but I prefer pieces with the orange part.

    It’s completely edible, don’t worry!

If you put a match to it, does it melt?

I eat all parts of any cheese until it becomes unpalatable. I’m approaching 40 and I’m not dead yet; I will eat cheese rind until I can make sure it is actually only wax that I am consuming. Which, I’ll remind you, has not killed me yet.

You can eat the plastic if you want

As far as I know, so long as it’s not wax, you can technically eat almost any rind. Whether you want to or not is another question.

  17. Junior_Adeptness_792

You can, but it’s not recommended

You said all rinds are safe, that could be interpreted that they should be eaten. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

  19. Tempestzl1

You can eat the plastic jf you want, but should you is the question

I’ve always enjoyed the rind on certain kinds of cheeses.

Two of my favorites are Grana Padano and applewood-smoked Cheddar.

In America at least, I’m pretty sure anything that’s wrapped inside food packaging has to be at least technically edible. I might just be making that up though, I’ve never done the research myself.

  22. When I was in France, some folks there said that you can pick out an American as the one who cuts the rind off their cheese

Are you talking about the red part of the cheese?

  24. CryptographerPerfect

You can always eat the waxy part. Waxes on food are completely edible.
