Hi! Today was my first time making royal icing and second time decorating. I thought the consistencies turned out pretty well, but had trouble melding the outline and flood icing together (see second photo). Was my outline icing too thick?

I personally always had this problem when I used 2 consistencies of icing (outline and flood). I just use one consistency for both outlining and flooding to make sure they meld.
If this is your second time decorating you are going to be just fine. This is AMAZING work for your second time. Heck this would be amazing if you’d been at it awhile. Awesome job!
And like the other commenter mentioned, I don’t use two different consistencies for flood and outline, I just do one for both. I only use a different consistency for details.
If you are using one consistency for both, it’s taking too long for your too flood and then “fix” any errors for it to meld. I also am sure to flood gently right next to my outline then do a bigger flooding as I get further away from the outline.
