Hey r/HotPeppers, I'm a first time indoor pepper grower and have started these Carolina Reaper Peppers and Habanero Peppers from seed on January 1, 2025.

I have been using this Sansi grow light and bottom-watering them with some diluted Fox Farm fertilizer. (Big Bloom and Grow Big, started after 2.5 weeks)

I notice that the leaf on one of the plants doesn't seem full and has some white on the surface (Image 1). Is this normal?

However, this plant seems be the fastest growing from what I have started from seed.

I'm also looking for general advice based on the images because I'm not exactly sure what is considered normal or if I'm doing something wrong. It's generally seemed to grow slowly.

  1. Looks good! They can be finicky little shits when they’re seedlings. See what happens if you rub the white stuff off. It could be too wet from overwatering / lack of airflow, but looks healthy otherwise!

I get a few superhots that get that, I’m not sure the cause but they always grow out of it and do fine.

  3. Yeah you are good, they should be fine. Make sure they are getting a little air movement as stated previously and let them dry out a little more than you might think between waterings.

  4. Repotting might be helpful for you since some of them have true leaves.
