OGUNQUIT (WGME) – It’s been a busy week for Ogunquit firefighters as they’re prepping for their annual Christmas meal Wednesday.

It’s free and open to all at the Ogunquit Fire Station, whether you lost a loved one, can’t cook your own meal or just want company, make sure to stop by.

This tradition was started by Fire Chief Russell Osgood and his wife Lynn.

They wanted a place for community members to go, especially if they were going to be alone on Christmas Day.

“When I became fire chief here, it felt like we had this great space, and we are a community with a lot of elderly folks that might not have family members, so I thought, ‘Why not?’” Osgood said. “You know, my kids are grown and out of the house, so Christmas Day is really a day for my wife and I to give back.”

Right now, there’s about 60 people planning to attend.

The dinner begins at 12 p.m. and goes through 2 p.m.
