I really like Garbo’s

  1. A good buddy of mine came down from Seattle to see the Death From Above 1979 show with me. But it was cancelled. So we bummed around Austin for a few days instead.

We went to Waterloo Records for a haul and then walked over to Garbo’s for lunch. I’ve had Garbo’s maybe 10 times but I would say the majority has been their food truck that is rented out for corporate events. So limited menu but always good.

I got the burger, wanting to see if they were on the “seafood place that has an amazing burger” vibe that Clark’s and Perla’s has. The burger was good but I’d stick with their lobster roll next trip.

I swear anytime I see good food on this sub that I’d be interested in trying it’s always the farthest possible place up north while still technically being considered Austin.

Edit: fuck, y’all took this personally. There are restaurants south of 183 too just fyi.

I really wish it was cheaper. I find it hard to justify spending $30 on a lobster roll.

  4. And they have Del’s frozen lemonade! It was of my favorite places to go when we lived in Austin bc the patio and play area were great. Plus oysters.

I love Garbo’s/. Just wish they were a bit cheaper but I understand why and will continue eating there.

  7. I love Garbos but the potions have gotten smaller while the prices are going up. It’s still a great chill spot and I know food cost is going nuts, but I’m really at my limit. At the very least bring back the cornichons with the smoked fish dip!

  8. Really? It’s on my never go back list. No redeeming qualities.

Do not sleep on the Garbo’s Key Lime Pie. One of the owners used to live in Key West and brought the pie recipe with her. It’s legit, and you can buy it in slices.

My FIL likes Key Lime pie and I brought him a slice for his bday. He was skeptical but after the first bite he was hooked.

My God with this sub sometimes…y’all throw a shit fit about a $30 lobster roll where the main (Maine…lol…whatevs) ingredient comes from halfway around the country, but you’ll glaze tf out of a goddamn $30 French dip every week. I can’t…I just can’t with you mf’ers.

I don’t know if this sways anyone but I used to work at Chase and ran the owner’s deposits. You couldn’t ask for a nicer customer and he even gave our staff discounts sometimes. Even things like the icecream Garbos has on site are projects he’s funding for his kids to give them job experience. He’s just a super good guy.

I remember going to the brick and mortar when it first opened and the water glasses didn’t taste clean and kinda weirded me out from there. Whatever the place was on Rainey St, Happy Lobster i think, has a lot of lobster meat for their sandwiches and price.
